The Gooner - Issue 224

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

And like many other of our players, his attitude to playing "slightly" out of position stank. Not just him, but the likes of Rosicky too.

Plus his decision making is sometimes totally brainless.

Not for me the shining light - wish he has, as in the game at Portsmouth in 2006 he carried the midfield. Sadly, it looks like that might never be repeated, and he's taking up a valuable space in the squad, plus a huge chunk of wages.

He's completely unproven over the long term by any yardstick mate.
I think you might find that all of your analysis is subjective - at least I gave you some examples of games he'd performed in and the fact that his goalscoring record from starting positions in central midfield compare favourably with any of our other players.

Listen, the fact is everything said about players on here is slightly subjective. Personally I think Fabianski is the worst fucking Arsenal keeper I've ever seen but others disagree and don't even start me on that rollneck and glove wearing fairy that Sociedad seem so keen on (please £5m for him is bigger robbery than paying 150p per litre for diesel).

Don't you agree that we should at least give the guy a chance over say 15-20 matches assuming he gets fit, play him in the right position, and see how he gets on. If he ends up being shit, fair enough, slate him then but not now.

Who knows what Wilshere will be like when he first gets back? Surely you'll be allowing him 20 or so games to get back to where he once was
ok, let's give him 15-20 games to see if he's the best midfelder of his generation - before we call him that.

Happy with that mate

OK. I look forward to a fit trio of Wilshere, Diaby and Arteta next season. Abou already was the finest of his generation as the French u-19 captain and I'm sure old twinkletoes won't be letting me down in 2012/13

Are you saying by being captain it makes him the best of his generation? It doesnt work like that does it??? A captain doesnt necersarily mean youre the best player in a team.... Also being a good player at u-19 level means nothing history is littered with kids who didnt kick on and make anything of themselves at the highest level of football and sport in general. Lets not forget Denilson was captain of the Brazil u-19's not that long ago :?

In the reserves.....or preferably sitting on the bench watching a far more experienced and responsible Mikel Arteta showing him how to play the holding role sensibly without conceding endless free-kicks.

He might be one of the 'big 3 players' in the reserves though :D

Chill out Flash my old mate - my 'best player of his generation' comment has been taken very literally in some quarters. He certainly had the ability to be, and perhaps would have been if not for the injury. The Denilson point is well made - how on earth a man of such limited talent could be amongst the cream of youth in a country like Brazil never ceases to amaze me

I can assure you there's no WUMing involved mate. I can admire other people's stellar work in that area. Perhaps my "most gifted player of his generation" comment was taking things a little too far, but I am a fully signed up Abou Diaby fan. My favourite Gooner by a mile. I might be tempted to pay £80 a game if the Great Man recovered and became a regular in the side - as we saw once Bergkamp and TH14 moved on, you have to enjoy these players while they are here.
I did think that IHH was a fellow member of the Abou fan club but he then revealed his WUM tendancies with the comment "I also love Carlos Vela" which is up there with Red's "Denilson is one of my favourite midfielders" quote :D
