As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Champions League will be a pipe dream, no chance. Languishing around 10th-13th place all season I reckon. Podolski must be off his rocker to sign.
Someone else would have been the point of the team and scored goals, even Chamakh scored well when he knew he was the main striker before Robin came back, if Robin leaves someone else will step up.

I guess you never know, but even as a gooner, if I was in his position I'd leave. Why waste the best years of your career playing for a team as tactically inept as Arsenal?
But, he might like being the big fish and being captain, so you never know.
This time last season I said the same about cesc and I actually went further and suggested that I would lose a little respect for a top player staying with us to be surrounded by shit and an inept manager. I am trying to find any real reason why rvp would want to stay and I can see none - he deserves so much better and we are not interested in doing what it takes to surround players like cesc and rvp with genuine quality so that we might win again. This club is all about making cash nowadays not about winning

Exactly. There's no footballistic nor financial reason for him to stay.
If he has an ambition to win trophies, he'll go.
If he wants the biggest contract he can get, he'll go.
If he wants to play with world class players, he'll go.
The only reason to stay is emotional and family reasons. And for a club as truly great as Arsenal to be relying on emotion and family ties is f*ckin' pathetic.
There is another way of looking at it, its quite likely we will drop out of the CL, the club can approach it two ways, sell him and make the money back or invest heavily in the team to get back at the first attempt, one look at Liverpool tells you that the club will have to get back in it straight away or slip into the abyss.
In that case he may have to sit out his contract BUT if the club does invest heavily as it should do and it manages to win the PL because its the only focus then he may sign on and stay.
And we absolutely should sell if he refuses to sign a new deal - I am all for keeping him and it will be the death knoll for the club if we lose our last remaining star player but there is no way in the world we should allow him to walk away for free nor should we keep a player who has decided he wants to leave
His age has to be a factor too, he's 30 next year, how much longer does he have at the very top of his game? Certainly not 4 or 5 years which is what he will sign for, the last two years of his new contract could prove to be very expensive.
I don't want him to go but he's benefited from becoming the central striker because the team rely and aim for him to score, previous to this we wouldn't have been fussed if he left given his injury record, someone else will take over.
Personally I think he will sign if we qualify for the champions league and Arsenal offer him a very decent wage. I do get the impression he loves the Arsenal.
But if he does decide to leave, I'll wish him well. As long as he doesn't sign for Chelsea or bloody City.
We all claim that whether we are in next seasons champs lge or not will have a huge bearing on whether rvp stays or not but do we still believe that this is the case ? Rvp is no fool and it doesnt take a genius to see that if we do indeed qualify then it is more to do with luck than anything else so I am not sure that he will look at it as a reason to make him stay. If it was me I would absolutely realise that this is a shite team with no guts and passion and it was luck that won the day for us and in some ways stumbling over the line backwards like this would make me less inclined to stay than if we won our last few games but still didnt qualify
