FRIMPONG

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

rigsby wrote:SteveO again what is arrogant about what he has done? The whole 'Frimmy Facts' was started off by people on Twitter. He loved it and encouraged people to tweet them. Its hardly arrogant is it? He hardly believes he gave Jesus the gift of beard? It was him having a laugh. People need to understand what arrogant actually means. From what I've seen of him, never once has he professed to be the big bollocks, or that he's better than anyone, or that he think he's arrived. He doesn't 'swagger' about, infact of the games we've seen him play I think we can all say he puts a pretty good shift in.

Rigsby, we could argue the point forever. Arrogance is open to interpretation, we all know that. One person's arrogance is another's self confidence, and depending on whether you like the individual or not you can argue the case either way.

People called Eric Cantona arrogant for his on pitch swagger. Other athletes called Daley Thompson arrogant. Other snooker players called Ronnie O'Sullivan arrogant for starting to play certain frames left handed. You could label all of them arrogant. On the other hand you could argue that all of them were supremely talented sportsmen in their field, displaying how good they were at their trade. I would certainly argue that they all reached the top of their trade and therefore if indeed you were to label them arrogant, to some degree it was earned.

I wish the kid well, I really do. I don't go round hoping that players fail or booing players or anything like that. I just think that he should stick to football, and prove himself in the bloody game for at least a season before he expands this Twitter personality any more. Personally I thought the Frimmy facts or whatever you call them were a display of arrogance - re-tweeting boastful statements - but you could argue it differently. Coming out with a statement such as "just saying that this is what happens in Africa" - look up 'arrogant' in a thesaurus and alternative suggestions are 'conceited', 'condescending', 'superior'. If a teenage footballer is trying to lecture us on 'stuff that happens in Africa', I can't think of anything more condescending - he might find some of us have been to certain parts of Africa long before he was thought of

The "You've been Frimponged" thing is cring worthy. The self styled wannabe hardman. You're a hardman when other people discribe you as one. Not when you say so yourself as he does.

He's had two serious injuries, is laid off for another 9 months (18 months knowing our medical team  ) and is probably bored. He didn't start Frimmy Facts, his cousin started DENCH, and he has nothing better to do. The photo he posted was stupid but leave him to it...or as Bizzle would say, #LeaveItYeahhhhhh :barscarf:

Fuss about nothing really, I dont think you can appropriate anything in this thread to purported arrogance, I know 19 year olds who are twice as bad with half the reason to act that way!

Agreed. Reminds me of when Paul Ince first joined United and labelled himself "The Guvnor" - something Roy Keane flatly refused to refer to him as. Exactly the point you are making - this stuff should be earned as praise externally, and not self appointed

Frimpong conducted an interview on the official website headed up with "I'm not just a hardman".

Some would argue not even a hardman.

Just so that people don't get the impression that everyone on here is against him, here's a ditty I made up a little while back in tribute to our Ghanaian youngster ...

Frimpong merrily on high,
He is our new enforcer,
Frimpong's gonna make you cry,
And impregnate your daughter,
Oh, Oh-Oh, Oh-Oh, Oh
Oh, Oh-Oh, Oh-Oh, Oh
Oh, Oh-Oh, Oh-Oh, Oh
Oh, Oh-Oh, Oh-Oh, Oh
Oh, Oh-Oh, Oh-Oh, Oh
Oh, Oh-Oh
E-mma-nu-el's our saviour.

Yes, but unlike Gareth Bale, most of us have evolved since then!

Actually, that reminds me of an Alan Partridge quote...

Alan: I loved that phrase you used, it was very clever -- "revolution not evolution".
Tony: No, it was the opposite. "Evolution not revolution".
Alan: Well, whatever. Because that is me. I evolve, but I don't ....... revolve.
