Staying at Arsenal means RVP is not challenging himself to improve, play with better players and fight to get into a competitive world class team. If anything, staying at Arsenal will merely confirm that he lacks ambition and wants a nice life on easy street: picking up his fat wages, without ever having to bother about fighting to win trophies, walk into the team every week, never be subject to discipline and public scrutiny etc....play for fans who demand absolutely nothing and will kiss your ring for finishing 4th/3rd.
If RVP is a serious footballer who cares about winning before money and a life of easy comfort, he will leave.
He's not earned the right to be seen as a serious footballer, had he been here 8 years and given us 8 good years fitness wise then I would agree but he hasn't so shouldn't be hero.worshipped or given Henryesque respect as a returning hero just because he happened to stay fit for one year in 8 and live up to the potential he was supposed to show years ago.
For all his faults
Wenger has stood by him when many including myself would have sold him 2 years ago because he was never fit, he does owe us and he owes us more than one season.
Wenger 'stands' by everyone though doesn't he?
Stands by Chamakh.
Stands by Diaby.
Has stood by Almunia how long?
Stands by Ramsey.
Stood by Eboue for so long.
Stood by Denilson for ages.
Where has his 'loyalty' got us? It isn't a stroke of genius by Wenger, it is Wenger getting lucky that one of the crocks he stood by actually turned out outstanding. Wenger 'stands' by these players because he is weak, and cannot make tough decisions - hence the reason Almunia, Diaby and Squillaci are still on our wage bill!
You have a valid point that he has given us just the one year, but that one year alone is more than Diaby, Eboue, Song, Denilson, etc gave us in years and years. And for that one year alone, he owe it to himself to leave.
Wenger has let RVP and the club down.
Wenger shames the club.
Why should RVP hang around in the last big contract of his career, to muck about with clowns like Gervinho, Song, Ramsey, Diaby, Denilson, Shitachi, Chamakh, Mertesacker, Park and co? He could join any serious club in Europe, and where would be the point in hanging aaround this garbage?
