I was going to mention him i thought he played very well for us when seaman was out injured but dont think alot of people rated him.

Another player wenger screwed over - he dropped him despite his good performances to bring back an aging and declining seaman  :x

Re peyton, I have to say mc that it is impossible to properly judge the guy when he has had nothing but shite keepers to work with  Would willow or whatever goalkeeping coach you can name do anything better with mannone and flaps ? People mocked me in the past when I suggested craig gordon but he sure as hell is better than mannone and flaps

You don't have a goalie who is learning his trade if you can help it. You buy proven ability so that means someone who has played 200 games in goal. It took Bob Wilson 5 years to get the first team position and that was only because Jim Furnell made one mistake too many. Our current goalies got a game for us almost immediatly they signed because they are all either injury prone and in my opinion none of them are good enough including Chesney.

I thought he was a good keeper, not many number 2s that good! Fucking hell, what I'd give for him now.
The games against Wimbledon and then at Old Trafford he was fucking epic!

This^^^. 8)

I feel Chesney has the potential to be a top top keeper. But that is all it is at the moment; potential. Contrary to his massive ego, he is not the finished product and should be learning as back-up to a top keeper. But that’s in a perfect world, I suppose... :(

Manninger was fucking class for us. I'd have him back in a flash, he's a free agent as well.

A reflection of the sad state we find ourselves in.

Ah yeah the penalties too. The guy was playing so great it's a shame Seaman came back into the team really. Subsequently when he played in 98/99 and after for sporadic games he didn't look so good. Anyone remember the howler against Wimbledon at Highbury?

I seem to remember him playing for Fiorentina where he had a bit of a bad time as well. Probably wishful thinking but you do wonder if he ever could have became a truly great keeper had he stayed in the team after his first run of games.

Seemed like he never recovered from being dropped when Seaman came back. Maybe he just didn't have it in him and was a flash in the pan. For what it's worth I think it was a real pity we let him go but easy to say he shouldn't have been dropped now, making the call in 1998 I doubt so many people would have wanted Seaman put out to grass then.

Think he struggled along a bit at Fiorentina then sat on Juve's bench didn't he? I'm guessing he had a spell or two at some unknown continental teams in between bigger clubs?

My god, Mannone is actually doing his best to be worse than Fabianski.....I mean it was always marginal but I didn't think anyone could reach those depths

Two things to deal with in the game - one he escaped giving away a pen due to a blind ref, the second he punched clear when an easy catch was available

Can't blame him for either goal but the guy makes a minimum of 1 glaring mistake per match that leads to a goal or clear chance

I'd rather have Flappyhandski than DonVito any day of the week,
how far have we fallen?

Almunia, Fabianski, Mannone are all awful and even Chesney ain't great! I find it incredible there is not a scout at the club who has been able to identify a decent goalkeeper in recent years.
