As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Yep we'll scrape into 4th and keep Wenger in his job yet again
pretty much, I'm afraid.
As I've said before, Wenger achieves the minimum requirement... consistently. Nothing more, nothing less; it's thrilling stuff, and would make a cracking film - perhaps even a sequel to fever pitch?
I really don't think we'll get 4th this year, I think finally we're gonna get found out. Last year RvP dragged us through & basically got us up there. Where would we have been without him?
I don't see it happening this year. Whether that's a good or bad thing remains to be seen...
Also, Steve0 with respect, is a glass half empty kinda bloke imo. No insult intended though.
So am I the best of times, but I just think Utd, and chavs will continue good form and City won't be far behind whilst we just look vulnerable in easy games sometimes, like Norwich a few weeks ago, a shite defense that we couldn't break down, between now and Jan. I think we'll have a few more like that sadly.

Considering beer cup, champs lge, FA cup fixtures and Prem lge games after the defeat to the PL league leaders, I want to ask where in the league you consider us to be after the fixtures at the end of Jan?

An acknowledgement to chippy for setting up a poll. I'm going to vote that we shall be in the top three at the minimum and exceeding our target for 'our seasons (virtual) cup'. (I've set the poll up, Chippy)
Eight home games and six away games (of which seven homes and four aways are wins on paper) I EXPECT us to be challenging for honours.
I want and predict (loosly) 29-35 points from these games
Talking to some fellow Gooners last night, there are still quite a few that think we're no worse off than last season, and that ultimately we'll still finish 4th.
I don't think this season carries the same hope value after 10 games and here's why.
Our 10th league game of last season was the 5-3 win at Chelsea. and capped a run of 9 points from 3 games. RvP was in the form of his life coming off the back of that hat-trick at the Bridge and in tight games was the matchwinner we could turn to. Walcott was also in the side and starting to show some promise (the goal at the Bridge) and at least offered the side some pace (yes we know he's not the finished article by a long shot).
Now I look at the position after 10 games, and our last 3 games have yielded 3 points by comparison. Last season Chelsea were doing their best to implode and therefore there were 2 CL places up for grabs. This season normal service is resumed and they might as well implement a split like in the SPL because the top 3 are so head and shoulders above everyone else that we're all competing for one remaining place.
There isn't a matchwinning striker to turn to anymore and the Spuds are almost certainly going to go for broke in the transfer window by trying to sign Willian or Moutinho, whilst we will sell Walcott and over promote Gnabry as the latest wonderboy to save us 'dizzying prices'
At this stage last season the team had some building momentum. At this stage there is no momentum at all. It feels completely different to me, but clearly not everyone agrees. Quite a few think that we are better than last year and will undoubtedly make the top 4
I wouldn't say we're in a better position than last year, because then to me it felt like a few players back from injury and a few key signings and we could really have improved (even if we all knew we wouldn't make the necessary moves). And as you say we had RvP who carried us through so many games I don't want to think about it.
This year feels more hopeless than ever and I genuinely cannot see anything (barring Kroenke and Wenger being removed) happening to change this. We all know that Wilshere and Chamberlain are gonna be gone in a few years at this rate, for all his deficiencies Walcott still has something to offer and I'm not going to be celebrating if he goes to the Mousers or whoever whilst we play Gervinho up front. Or at all.
But I do still think we'll get top four. The only contenders for it are Everton and Spurs. I don't think Everton are a great team, they hardly have a good track record of performing under pressure and I just don't think they'll last the course. Spurs are ridiculously reliant on Gareth Bale and have so far this season shown nothing other than winning at OT: at home alone they've failed to beat West Brom and Norwich and stumbled unconvincingly past Villa and QPR and been thrashed by Chelsea and Wigan. Add this to their Carling Cup and Europa League form (with more or less full sides) and the dross knocking round in their squad and they're hardly looking much better than us. It's hardly a huge leap of faith in the club to state we'll finish 4th, there's just a complete lack of competition out there.
This thread again, huh? We had it last year and some idiots predicted us getting relegated...
We "should" finish in that magical 4th place trophy spot again, only because the PL (for all SlySports bollocks) is THAT weak of a league. We won't get 4th because we are so good, we will get it because the rest are so average or so poor.
BUT;
As mentioned above what MAY impact us THIS year is no RVP. No outstanding goalscorer with 20+ PL goals.
So I say we "should" get that 4th spot only because the other teams fighting for it are shit mostly, but we might actually miss it this year unless Giroud gets into gear or we sign a PROVEN PL striker in January. My gut feeling is 5th, 4th depending on January transfer window or Giroud hitting form tbh.
Looking at those, by and large, kind fixtures up until January I reckon you'll be in 4th pushing for 3rd at the end of the year but that a relatively low points return from January will see you still in 4th but looking warily over your shoulder at 5th rather than hoping to push on to challenge the top 3 come 31st January. Still think you'll end the season in 4th.
