As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

should of been retaken, also look at our bench after he misses, Walcott, Podolski, Jenkinson & Coq all look gutted, Chamakh sitting there motionless, without a care in the world.
Poor old Chamster
Plays for 2 hours at Reading, scores 2 goals and gives a great performance and then doesn't get a run out.
Chamakh, like Arshavin has been terribly managed by Wenger. He could have been nurtured into a decent, useful striker, but was instead completely ignored and has completely given up on Wenger as he has given up on him.
I wouldn't swap Chesney for Schwarzer. Schwarzer makes his fair share of howlers. For Given maybe or if the Reina rumours were true but I can remember Schwarzer over the last 2 seasons making quite a few howlers. And he has had a settled backline for years.

there are other keepers I'd rather we bought than Schwartzer, even from Fulham
You could add defenders in general to that observation as well, but why did Wenger not go for Lloris who is now a bench warmer for the spuds? Far too much speculation now about strikers when it's a good, sorted defence we are crying out for
Personally I didn't think Lauren was that great. He got skinned far too many times by nippy wingers. I loved his attitude and coolness but he wasn't a great defender in my opinion.

Shame he couldn't have ignored some of London's seedier distractions.

I'd take Lauren any day over santos! (even on the opposite flank Lauren would have done a better job).

Seem to remember Luzhny doing a great job at left back at the end of the 01/02 season, very solid and such a contrast to Santos nowadays!
But yeah Lauren used to get a bit of stick back during the invincible season and was seen as the weak link, seem to remember we were on the verge of replacing him with Trabelsi from Ajax at the end of that season but failed to get a work permit.

I'd take just about anyone over Santos tbh! Lauren wasn't that great, certainly not in the same league as Ashley Cole and probably the least talented of the Invincibles but he knew how to be part of a solid defence.
It's difficult to say whether any of our current crop have that in them, because we could have just about any four defenders in world football and in our 'system' they'd still be shambolic. For me Sagna is fucking quality and there are very few people I would rather have playing right-back, he would slot right into any defence. Not sure about the rest.
