Why we will win the league

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

As Bon Jovi said, Keep The Faith :D

It is possible...there's no telling what'll happen, If you went through 1988-89 then you'll know (I didn't but know a few who did)...who would've thaught we'd stuff it up against Derby in the third to last game!

Chelsea on Sunday did feel like Bolton 2003 however.

Can't see it. All hopes pinned on one trophy now.

Do you think we can't win the league because Man Utd won't slip up enough? Or because we're not good enough to win our matches?

If its the latter, that makes sense and I tend to agree based on form.

But surely, to win the Champions League, we need to knock out, probably Liverpool, Chelsea and Man Utd (or Barca).

To win the league, we need to knock out / beat Liverpool, Man Utd, and 5 other, weaker teams. There isn't much in it in terms of difficulty.

I tend to think that United will slip up, especially if we beat them - then if they lose to Chelsea, we only need them to draw one game. Its possible, I'm telling you.

If we were in decent form, then I'd fully agree that we could yet still triumph.

But having seen us draw with Birmingham, Aston Villa, Wigan and Middlesbrough recently - which was then followed by a loss - I can't be confident that we'd beat Bolton, Liverpool or Reading.

If we did return to our early season form and pick up 9 points from those games, then there's definitely a chance.

But then there's Man Utd away, which I can see resulting in 4-0 once again.

Just seen that you started a spearate thread. Here are my comments from the "Too early" thread:
26may1989 wrote:Can't say you've changed my views, stevie_b_19, I still don't think we have a real chance of winning the league, but I like the analysis! What it underlines more than anything is that we mustn't stop going for the win in every game, just in case United do choke.

The reason I doubt your prediction will come to pass is not so much to do with the maths as the relative confidence of United and Arsenal over the last month. A big change on both fronts would be needed, and I just can't see both (plus some mediocre Chelsea results) happening.

If your prediction came through, I would love to hear from all those sack Wenger divs.

Hear, hear. Regardless of anything, these calls for his head are stupidity.

I think Manure will drop points. If either Chavs or us can win all the remaining games they will be champs....prob is on the back of our current form we need to seriously improve to me that team. Step 1: Thrash bolton on sat - we owe them a pasting!

I am not a pessimist and don't want to bring people down but a different outlook to our remaining fixtures:

Bolton v Arsenal

Arsenal get bullied by Bolton out of the game, as Bolton gain a key point. Arsenal frustrated and disgusted after failing to win, yet again

Arsenal v Liverpool

Arsenal collect themselves and finally win

Man Utd v Arsenal

Man Utd beat Arsenal, as Eboue is sent off for a reckless tackle on Ronaldo

Arsenal v Reading

Win

Derby v Arsenal

Arsenal beat stubborn Derby

Arsenal v Everton

Win/draw

Sunderland v Arsenal

Sunderland will probably fight for their lives in order to stay up. So getting kicked in North by hoofers, and with Roy Keane with their manager. Arsenal's thing?

I'd liked to share your optimisson but unless we roll up our sleeves and get stuck in to Bolton and win, it will be out of our hands. The night in Milan was great we were allowed to play football but every game since we have been hustled and closed down.
At bolton we know how they play so we need 11 players with Flamani's commitment to get stuck in and grind out a result if need be and get back to winning ways and set us up for manure. Yes it may sound negative but i've got the hotel in Manchester and the flight to newcastle for the sunderland game booked hopefully to win the title!

Hoorah, this is better than hearing nothing by moans and groans. A few weeks ago someone on TV said that the team that was leading the premiership on that particular week had gone on to win it a huge number of times (9 out of 10, I think they said).

Who was top of the Premiership at that time?

ARSENAL!!!!!!!!!!

Come on you gunners, Flamini for king!
