He was and although not seen or used by his teammates he made some nice little runs at times looking for 1-2s etc. Seemed quite nippy and once those around him get use tyo him more he migth be a useful addition; based on this single viewing anyway

Solid debut. Impossible that the lad is going to be worse then Santos so our bar is set quite low in that regard

Very solid start. He clears well and makes some good runs. Some nice quick passing and a few good crosses. He looks very promising. He looks as if he knows his job and does it well. It was nice to see a LB who knows how to stay back to cover for the CB when he goes forward. He did that well when Kos pushed up. He did make a few small mistakes, but he always recovered quickly.

I can't wait to see how he develops. I think we will have 2 strong LBs now for Wenger to rotate in and out. That is good news. I do home Verm is ready to go for the match against Munich as we'll need him at LB since Nacho isn't available.

Can we please get rid of Santos now!

It did seem like he had a good debut, did everything he needed to but Stoke were not the toughest test he will face. I wonder if he will have had to challenge for as many headers in Spain as he did today.

Will need to see him play more to see if he is better than Gibbs plus would be good to see him with Vermaelen so they can form a partnership.

Hopefully with time his fitness will improve as he made a few simple mistakes late in the game.

A mate of mine, who used to coach at Real Jaen (League 2 level), and who is football-obsessed, told me Nacho is an unspectacular, but very consistent performer. He thinks he could become a Nigel Winterburn type player for us (which considering my mate is at least 10 years younger than me is impressive knowledge). I hope he's right. First signs were promising.

A steady, solid and consistant yet unspectacular defender is fine by me after all those years of Clichyesque cock ups, and promising runs by Gibbs to be let down by an awful cross.

He looked decent - fingers crossed.

Agreed. When I hear the term "great going forward" to describe a defender you just know that he's going to be another wannabe left winger who does a bit of part time defending on the side. Its a bit like hearing the terms "good sense of humour and bubbly" before the inevitable minger turns up :D

The terms I've heard to describe Monreal from Spanish football watchers have been first and foremost about his defensive capabilities.

I for one think singing 'Nacho, Nacho Man' to the Village People song would be embarrassing (except perhaps to Hashkads).  However his surname does give us the perfect opportunity to adapt a classic chant into a better one for him. How about...

Thought he played really well yesterday and a bit suprised to see him on the team sheet, bit of a baptism of fire against the knuckle draggers, so a thumbs up from me ( even though he looks like Crouch's younger brother) :barscarf:

It's blatantly going to be "Nacho Monreal" to the tune of the "Jose Antonio" song we had for Reyes.

It that case it would be wrong!! There might be a Spanish player connection but that doesn't work syllable wise unless you miss one out or put a big pause between his first and surname...

Solid. 8)

No clangers and looks intelligent with his runs and tracking back. Not afraid to clash heads either! Good debut but of course the real test is against the likes of Citeh/Manure/Chavs/etc.

Fingers crossed.
