The knock on effect on Arsenal winning the PL would generate millions in fan bases across the world wanting to buy standard merchandise not including celebration/''champions'' merchandise which we be a quid or two more expensive than standard stock, season ticket renewals, stadium tours, opportunities to have fans have a picture next to the trophy. Alright it won't cause us to break even but it will still generate more revenue then we're generating now.northbank123 wrote:The expenditure required to make us a team genuinely capable of winning the PL would far outstrip the revenue it generated even if we actually won the thing.
How so? It may have reduced the value of his shareholding but it's not HIS money unless he's actually loaning/giving it to the club. Spending revenue and even operating at a loss doesn't mean we're spending HIS money, even if he is majority shareholder.highburyJD wrote:up till the new TV/shirt/sponsorship deals, extra spending would have been his money though...northbank123 wrote:What also riles me is people think we're complaining because he's not pumping HIS OWN money in.
signing up 6 players last season was relatively well timed
will hopefully mitigate against huge wage rises (even though Feo is marginally overpaid)
I don't think it will cost £70m to turn us into title winners. Perhaps £30-40m but not £70 but I do get where you're coming from, mate.northbank123 wrote: ATID - It would increase our revenue streams somewhat but it would be dwarfed by the fact we'd have to spend at least £70m in transfer fees and probably something like another £15m/year more in wages.
I hope we do see some change. I do believe that Kroenke is holding out on Usmanov to pay out the nose for ownership. I think he will sell without issue given the great offer. If he at least sees a substantial rise on his initial investment then he'll sell.georgeknows89 wrote:Nothing has changed, only a change in shareholder will result in any strategy change.Nothing might happen but last year Usmanov was too far from 30% to do anything, now that he is there ( he has the 5 shares needed but not declared ) i think the summer might be lively off the pitch
Ah I had forgotten all about Swiss ramble.
Agree with this. I'm a huge fan of what Arteta has done this season but I too don't think he can offer enough in that role over a whole season to win the PL. Not at his age. In the PL that holding/DM role is vital and you need someone top drawer, at their peak to fill it.northbank123 wrote:£30-40m to turn us into title winners? Let's just take stock and where we're at and think that we're going to be over 20 points off this season (quite possibly about 25).
I would say at the moment we would never win the league without a far better keeper and without doubt a top class striker. We'd then need another winger/striker depending on where Podolski would play. Our centre-backs aren't as bad as our system makes them look but they are all still extremely error-prone and I'd say there's a convincing argument we need another. I'm a big Arteta fan but he's 31 and not a holding midfielder in any event despite doing a decent job there this year - couldn't really rely on him playing 45-odd games there and expecting to win the league.
I just think he's a bit too slow. He reads the game well but understandably given where he's played throughout his career he isn't really a natural.DB10GOONER wrote:Agree with this. I too am a big Arteta fan but I feel he is only a squad player these days. He has lost a lot of pace and commits too may fouls, stopping any chance of trying to regain possession when chasing a goal. Bayern away in injury time being a prime example.northbank123 wrote:I'm a big Arteta fan but he's 31 and not a holding midfielder in any event despite doing a decent job there this year - couldn't really rely on him playing 45-odd games there and expecting to win the league.

That includes things such as official internet sights for highlights during the week after the game, and in flight deals too.
I am guessing, but I think long term, over five to ten years, there is going to be a FIFA (or whatever body exists then) endorsed website that will carry all the Premiership highlights each week, for all the clubs.StuartL wrote:QuartzGooner wrote:My guess is that Kroenke, IF he is in it for the long term, is looking at worldwide TV deals, not just the UK.

Which are currently available to all signed up members on .com the day after a game in highlight / extended highlights / full 1st half / full 2nd half clips as part of the membership package.
So do you reckon Quartz that the highlight deal will be removed in the future ? As why would signed up Gooners pay for it twice or alternatively at a cost of £35 or (whatever it will be) it may be cheaper to become a red member and view it on your computer than purchase the highlights via another source ?
So we're talking about min £60m really (and I reckon de Jong we wouldn't get anywhere near that cheap). Plus their wages - average of about £70k would be about £15m a year. And even then that would only allow us to compete, despite all the slating of United they have racked up 89 points last year and possibly 96 this year. Really very difficult to justify it as a financial success.Arsenal Till I Die wrote:I would say at the moment we would never win the league without a far better keeper and without doubt a top class striker. I would buy, personally-
Samir Handanovic - £15m
Adil Rami - £12-£14m
Nigel De Jong - £8-10m
Stevan Jovetic - £20-25m
Minimum of £55m Maximum of £64.
So on reflection I was wrong regarding how much it would take but I still think that spending the that amount of money is beneficial in the long run in terms of financial benefits (relating to the knock on effect post, prior)
