Re: Martin Angha leaves Arsenal
Elton Monteiro, Nigel Neita and Daniel Boateng look set to be released.
"If all three players were let go then it would take the number of released players to 12, with Martin Angha, Kyle Ebecilio, Craig Eastmond, Sanchez Watt, Josh Rees, James Shea, Samir Bihmoutine, Conor Henderson and Zach Fagan also poised to be let go, in addition to Andrey Arshavin and Sebastien Squillaci from the first-team squad."

Thought Henderson showed promise before his injury.
I know some have accused me of having it in for Sanchez Watt. I don't, but I just think he is not going to make it with us.

Watt is 22, has had SIX loan spells, and can't get anywhere near the Arsenal squad. He's presence at Arsenal is as pointless as Eastmond's. Why are they still here???

The one great game he had up at Liverpool in the Beer Cup and everybody remembered it because Baptista scored 4 despite Aliadiere will outperforming him as I recall.spendsum4uckingmoney wrote:Remember Aliadiere? 1 fecking goal in 7 fecking years and that was like the 5th against Milan.northbank123 wrote:Sanchez Watt is like the kid that never moved out. Absurd that it's actually been floated we're interested in Aliadiere AND Vela after they both scored a few goals this year.

I understand why they are contracted until age 22.g88ner wrote:That's stating the obvious, isn't it?QuartzGooner wrote:Thought Henderson showed promise before his injury.

Not possible to say for sure that every player will not make it when they are 20, some emerge in early 20's.
Some of these players have been with us since they were 9 or 10, so to give them every chance to make it is only fair.
But key is to keep them on low wages until they are squad regulars.

But did they ever look like making it? - they looked dross years ago, so surely bar a miracle (such as a possible change in fortune brought about by consuming a cocktail of fairy dust, ground unicorn horn and rocking horse shit) their fate was written in stone years ago yet they're still here...QuartzGooner wrote:I understand why they are contracted until age 22.g88ner wrote:That's stating the obvious, isn't it?QuartzGooner wrote:Thought Henderson showed promise before his injury.

Bellerin, Eisfield & Gnabry - look like they could all become class players, but probably also in time will disappear of the radar for our club
I thought Fran Merida was going to be a star, but left and is somewhere now in Spain, think Miquel will also go the same way

I think we can all say that even at 16, when first seeing Cesc and Wilshere it was apparent they had something special about them, though were not the finished product.g88ner wrote:But did they ever look like making it? - they looked dross years ago, so surely bar a miracle (such as a possible change in fortune brought about by consuming a cocktail of fairy dust, ground unicorn horn and rocking horse shit) their fate was written in stone years ago yet they're still here...QuartzGooner wrote:I understand why they are contracted until age 22.g88ner wrote:That's stating the obvious, isn't it?QuartzGooner wrote:Thought Henderson showed promise before his injury.

From what I saw, none of the others listed above looked like they would be regular first team players, though Watt certainly showed heart and a good work ethic.
But the key is "from what I saw" because I cannot claim to have watched lots of reserve and youth games, barely a handful over the years, and of course have not seen them in training.
I have no problem with them being on a low wage (for a footballer), say about a grand a week until they are 22, because if they do come good then we stand to gain a homegrown player on no or little transfer fee which I always like to see. They can live comfortably in London on that money, plus any bonuses if they qualify.
I would rather the club spent it's money like that, than a three year deal for Squillachi on about £60,000 per week.
Rosie makes a point when he mentions Merida, who looked very good at Carling Cup level, but did not make the final step up.
A player like that should be given every chance to make it with us, and if that includes a few loan spells then no problem from me.

Has anyone see our loanee striker Joel Campbell play for Betis this year?
If so, does this report match up?
If so, does this report match up?
Source: http://www.talksport.co.uk/magazine/fea ... tis-192530The low-down
1) Since arriving in Spain, defenders have struggled to cope with Campbell's dribbling at pace. The forward suffers an average of four fouls per game, or one every 23 minutes. That's more than Ronaldo, who is fouled once every 38 minutes, or Messi, who gets the heavy treatment once every 37 minutes!
2) The Costa Rican scored his first La Liga goal on December 2 with a stunning strike from distance against Deportivo la Coruña, becoming only the sixth Costa Rican ever to score in the Spanish League. He was a trending topic on Twitter in Spain as a result.
3) Campbell was nominated for the 2012 Golden Boy Award, a prize handed out by Italian paper Tuttosport to the best player in Europe under the age of 21, though he ultimately lost out to Malaga's Isco.
4) Marca, Spain's biggest daily newspaper, has singled out Campbell along with the likes of Thibaut Courtois and Isco as young La Liga players destined for greatness.
5) After a brilliant 3-0 victory over Malaga at the weekend in which Campbell performed well, Betis coach Pepe Mel revealed that he will travel to England soon in order to try and extend the forward's loan deal. Real Betis fans have thrown their weight behind the decision, and are desperate to keep the Costa Rican in Spain.
They say
"We're making progress so that those who are coming to the end of their deals can stay. I have a meeting scheduled together with Guillen (Betis President) in London to try and sort something with Joel. We'll try. Promoting from within doesn't always work. We'll combine people from here with those from outside.” Betis coach Pepe Mel on Campbell.

Don't know about that but he took a goal against Wales last year clinically to piss all over Gary Speed's memory in the memorial game

Craig Eastmond, Conor Henderson, Sanchez Watt, James Shea and Jernade Meade among 10 players released by the club.
Midfielder Dan Crowley joins.

Expect him to be labelled "The new Wilshere" at some point

Arsene's famed youth "policy" just keeps churning out the average players by the dozen!
