Good crosser, good passer, good at free kicks and good work ethic.
Whatever else he got up to off the pitch he kept himself in shape and gave 100% on it.
Not a great player, not one of the Man Utd or England all time teams, but honestly I think he was as effective for Man Utd and England as players such as Parlour or Ljungberg were for us.

this was my point,average,never.on a par with a ljunberg,yes defo,becks was a player youd rather have in your team than have to face him.to compare him with maradona or pele is unfair,but he was very very effective,as good as 95% of world footballers out there.

As someone said above, Beckham was an effective cog in RedNose’s machine. It’s no coincidence that he wasn’t an integral part of any of the clubs he played at after Manure, he was just another player. And if we’re being honest, his marketing contribution to those clubs far outweighed his footballing contribution. He was a good player, but never ever a great player or a footballing legend. Never.
A marketing legend maybe, but not a football legend.
Interesting one this, was he a great player......... Probably not, but he was a very good player. SAF knew when he sold him that the Beckham image had grown bigger than the player himself. I have no doubt that had Beckham remained at old shatford and binned the celeb lifestyle, he could of become a great player in the true sense of the word.
Once he put himself and his missus in front of his career it was all downhill from then on. For me......... Potential not fulfilled.

A great player and I for one will always think well of him.
The distance he could spot a pass from was immense, the best I've ever seen (hoddle came close).

He had Ronaldo to take over, and then got rid of Ronaldo too, so selling Beckham does not mean he was a bad player.
