As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

It's like they've been on an 16-month hangover.
True. But even with that decline they still finished second and got to another cup final. For me, you have to give a manager, any manager, a couple of seasons to stop the rot, or to rebuild or whatever it takes. He has a proven track record of winning and won them the FA Cup and the PL. I thought Man-kini was a bit of a twat to be honest, but his sacking is so indicitave of how fucking stupid and fickle modern football has become. Chairmen and owners now days are hardly ever "football people" for want of a better term. They tend to be bored billionaire arseholes who previously had absolutely no interest in football but like the idea of owning part of the latest fad, and then want instant glory and success because they are, at heart, spoiled fucktards.
We are the other extreme, we have held onto our manager waaaaay too long because of a combination of greed and fear of change. There is a happy medium between the revolving door approach and the outstaying your welcome approach.
re: outstaying welcome.
Don't think there was any manager better for the job that Wenger's done post Highbury
bank transfer fees and stabilise position through wage bill
Mancini's job was break their trophy hoo-doo and win SOMETHING which he did,
then trumped with a league title.
The next job was not just compete in the league but to improve their UEFA coefficient (which they could have don just by coming third and going deep in the WAFAcup) and entertain with all the big money stars at his disposal. He failed miserably in those terms.
Incidentally Wenger now has a very different job - the stadium debt is stabilised. He has a young core of players in place
AND plenty of money in the bank. Can Wenger do that job of taking the next step?
Can he sign us a Cantona and break OUR trophy hoo-doo?
I hope so - but it is a different job...

Let me get this right JD...... Wengers job was to stabilize the club financially post Highbury via transfer fee's and wages.
I'd counter he hasn't done a particularly good job then....... Arshavin, Chamakh, Bendtner. Santos, Squillaci, Park, Denilson and I am sure there's a few more I have forgotten. How much wasted cash have we got there?
He has spent on both fees and wages, but he has spent it on dross! I cannot envisage this changing anytime soon and he won't be able to use the stadium debt as an excuse anymore.
those are mistakes but all managers make them
so far leProf kept us in the top 4 and sustained the wage bill through player sales
he, unlike Mancini, has been successful in his predetermined baseline target
the job for the next few years is a very different one
can Wenger spend big? I hope so but his £12M + record is mixed
and we haven't recently won things on the cheap - his strength in the player market

The mistakes are catching the successes up fast though, with the exceptions of Cazorla and Arteta none of his recent acquisitions have exactly set the premiership alight.
I think Cazorla is an awesome signing.
Also like the BFG - was exactly what we needed. All managers signings are 'mixed'.
In recent years Purplenose signed Hargreaves, Nani, Anderson, Valencia, Jones, Young - each of them would be around or above our all-time transfer record. They have mostly been shite.
League Cup Winners; Liverpool Manager Dalglish sacked
FA Cup Winners ;Chelsea Manager Di Matteo sacked
Premier League Winners; Man City Manager Mancini sacked
Champions League Winners ; Chelsea Manager Di Matteo sacked
Championship Winners manager; Reading McDermott sacked
Automatic Promotion from Championship; Southampton Manager Adkins sacked
Promoted to Football League; Fleetwood Manager Mellon sacked
So we are stuck with Arsene until he wins something.
