I do not think anyone is arguing otherwise, but if we are discussing who I think we may bid for as a budget option then Beausejour would be no surprise.Supagoon wrote:
you have to be joking. Especially Beausejour, the man McLeish signed, barely PL standard.

Some pickings are too meagre even for our clubQuartzGooner wrote:I do not think anyone is arguing otherwise, but if we are discussing who I think we may bid for as a budget option then Beausejour would be no surprise.Supagoon wrote:

Re: Meagre Pickings
I think Julio Cesar signed for free. He's on big wages and I know 'Arry says he wants big money for him but I suspect he could be got cheaply.
MacManaman is starting to look a good player. He's young, English, strong, can beat his man and scores goals. I might be tempted to have him rather than Forehead.

Re: Meagre Pickings
Sorry mate, I should have been clearer. There are some OK players at these teams.......Ok in the sense that they could blend into our squad of average Joes like the Forehead, Le Chapman and Maryanne. What I want is players to improve the first team though rather than fill up the squad places. So I look at what I would pick as my current starting XI and then see if any of them would improve it......and I don't think they do. The weakest positions we have are GK, CB, CDM and CF......the latter by some distance, and yet I don't think any of these teams have players that would improve us there. Remy is fucking shit, not as good as Walcott or Podolski and on a par with Chapman, so don't see the point. Tiote is miles behind Arteta in terms of brains and all round ability. All the CBs are shit although a fit Samba definitely has a role in the PL.augie wrote:SteveO 35 wrote:Fucking none of them ! They've been relegated for a reason
I guarantee you that six months after signing wonderboy Remy everyone on here will be moaning like fuck about what another Joe Average substandard French import he his, and as for Newcastle.....funny how their wonderful signings from Ligue 1 have managed to drag them into the relegation mire.
I'd rather save the money than waste any of it on the shit that's been relegated
I also seem to remember being the voice of reason when kicking machine & general lump Tiote was being touted as a £20m footballer last season. Quartz's valuation is nearer the mark but the fact remains he is a poor man's Song and one that would be suspended every other week and found wanting in the CL.
Ben Arfa shows glimpses of class and ability wise is streets ahead of any other player getting relegated....but another enigma in the Walcott / Rosicky / Arshavin bracket is not what we need
In danger of throwing the baby out with the bath water there Steve o - yes their teams have been shit for most of the season and they are all somewhat culpable for that but does that mean that are necessarily shit players ? Last season rvp carried us to 3rd place but does that mean that song, djouru, Wally etc are all wonderful top of the league quality players ? Does it fcuk and you know it - we finished 3rd in spite of them and not because of them and the same principle should/could be applied to players at those teams.
I will say it again just for clarification......I don't expect remy to be a star player but given our adversion to spending big on transfer fee's then 8m for him would be in our ballpark plus he would bring much needed pace to a front line and he has an eye for goal![]()
Tiote is a brainless tool of doubt we are agreed
Possibly Cesar for Chesney but not a lot in it. McManaman looks ok but does he improve upon the Ox and Walcott - nope
Unless we sign a David Villa monster of a striker then any of these clowns would just carry on leading us towards virtual trophies rather than real ones
Re: Meagre Pickings
QPR - Cesar
Reading - Nobody
Wigan - Maybe a couple will make 'squad players'. Their manager would be the best signing we could make from them though!
Villa - Benteke
Sunderland - Johnson talented but not consistent enough, Sessegnon similar from what I've seen.
Southampton - Shaw though Lallana would be decent squad player.
Would still like us to be looking for a few 'winners' though!

I think Lallana is brilliant, most two footed English player I've seen in years...
Up there with Sneijder and Cazorla in that respect.

All better than what we have at the moment
Good shout actually. More likely to happen than any others being mooted in the press.

Cannot see Remy coming after his unrequited love allegation. Thankfully

Re: Meagre Pickings
Luke Shaw better than what we have? Imo definitely not a better left-back than Gibbs or Monreal atm.
Benteke would be a considerable improvement - although in reality we'll only sign one striker so I would rather hold out for a better striker - would love to sign Higuain although I don't personally believe the reports that we're in advanced talks for a minute, might as well have printed them on letterheaded paper and sent them out with the ST renewal letters.
Would definitely take Cesar. Still a very good goalkeeper and the perfect signing imo. Looking at the performances Friedel and van der Sar produced week in week out into their late 30s Cesar could have several years left at the top. Also, at 33 it wouldn't exactly kill Szczesny's career but would give him a kick up the arse that he desperately needs and allow us to bin him and look for another long-term option if he doesn't step up to the challenge.
