The be careful what you wish for still applies nonetheless - as much as there are not many star players that want to come to a big club that doesn't or can't pay there are as many super managers that would not want to be hamstrung financially - Pep didn't go to Dortmund, Jose didn't go to Spurs, Pellegrini isn't going to Fulham.
PS team spirit means you don't take back players that left you and you don't keep ones that are looking at greener pastures.

Re: Match DVDS
No, his departure was disgraceful. He was club captain and showed no class. He should have expressed his desire to move on and allowed us a fair off season to redeploy however he was a boy with a captains arm band. He ain't leaving anyway. If Man U want him he's hardly fodder for Barca. If he leaves Barca he has no pride.LeftfootlegendGooner wrote:Would you take Ces back.....I would personallySwifty wrote:Ok correction - leave of their own volition. hmmmm, strange that cos I remember Henry touting himself to barca for 3 years and us begging him to stay along with pay rises before he eventually went for a fraction of the fee we should have got (probably negotiated beforehand as a proviso of us keeping him those extra seasons).
Cesc always gave his all, even playing with a broken leg, henry on the other hand was a disgrace in his last season for us.....all of course my opinion

It was so obvious to everybody that he wanted to go the previous season, he didn't need to release a public statement or whatever which would have been far more disruptive and disrespectful. Can't believe the Fabregas departure came as a surprise to anybody that follows Arsenal FC and we have nobody to blame but ourselves for failing to replace him that very summer.
As per, heads were well and truly buried in the sand.
Re: Match DVDS
It wasn't a surprise - the only reason it dragged on was because Cesc didn't say anything. Had he stood up rather than shutup the whole inevitable departure would have happened much earlier and we wouldn't have been left scrambling on the last day to buy anything left AND Cescs integrity would have been maintained. He even let his old man say stuff without commenting. He was Captain remember and that was to placate him - he showed no leadership. That smile when they put a Barca shirt on him and he accepted quite gleefully after WC was treachery.northbank123 wrote:You have to be joking????Swifty wrote:No, his departure was disgraceful. Anyway, he won't be leaving. If Barca really don't rate him and are happy for him to go then that's both embarrassing for him and also HAS to mean his price tag has been heavily discounted.
Just remind me what RVP, Nasri, Song, Cesc, Clichy won exactly when together?
And if anyone says the 2005 FA Cup they clearly didn't watch it.

Yes, if only we had a captain who would publicly badmouth the club in order to force through a transfer quicker - I'm sure everybody would really appreciate that and how it displayed loyalty to the club.Swifty wrote:It wasn't a surprise - the only reason it dragged on was because Cesc didn't say anything. You admit everybody realises he wanted to go and it had obviously been made clear to staff behind closed doors, why would the club then need the player to confirm this in public? Amazing how every other club on the planet manages to conduct their transfer business without needing the players to do it on their behalf. The fact is that by not speaking out against the club he allowed us to choose when to sell him (if at all) - therefore it's not his fault we waited until late in the transfer window without even thinking about a replacement, quite the opposite.
Either you are a very lazy and uncommitted WUM or - and I am by no means limiting this to a footballing context - you are an idiot of the very highest order.
Re: Match DVDS
a captain should stand down when he is no longer committed to the cause. If that is being a windup merchant or the other option then so be it. Are you a little autistic? Get really insulting when you don't have things your way. Didn't mummy give you any toys as a kid (although your petulance suggests that may be a current circumstance).northbank123 wrote:Yes, if only we had a captain who would publicly badmouth the club in order to force through a transfer quicker - I'm sure everybody would really appreciate that and how it displayed loyalty to the club.Swifty wrote:It wasn't a surprise - the only reason it dragged on was because Cesc didn't say anything.
