SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Spanish media reporting Bendtner is in Malaga and that they are happy to pay 3 mil plus for him, but they can't afford his wages. Hopefully, the prospect of sun, cheap beer and 18-30 reps will attract him.

He's in debt isn't he? Lost money on his bling adventure. This pisses me off though. It's like FM when you recieve an amazing offer for a player, you do a dance, and then the contract breaksdown. Tragic. Why bid for the player if you cant afford his flipping wages?

Not really that straightforward if the player doesn't actually want to join Arsenal or in some cases come to England.

What clubs are you talking about? I've not seen anyone do this brilliant "business early" trick and sign anyone decent. City have splashed over 50M on a player with 1 cap for Brazil in the last 18 months and a bloke who starts chucking up if he get's more than a mile away from his house. :?:

If you'd rather we'd signed just a load of players for the sake of "getting them early" then I understand your frustration. Otherwise, i'd rather wait in the hope that the time has been taken on signing quality.

So the 7 weeks that have passed since the season finished - not to mention the few weeks preceding that when Wenger must have known he had to strengthen the squad - has not been sufficient time to identify and sign any targets? :? Especially considering that Gazidis was claiming a few weeks ago they already knew who they wanted to buy and that they had the money necessary to get them? :? :banghead: :banghead:

The point is that it is widely recognised that we need strengthening more than most if we really are going to compete and that we missed a one-off window of opportunity where the top 3 teams in the country were replacing their manager, although amazingly City and Chelsea both still managed to make top class signings during this period (I see you forgot Chelsea signing Van Ginkel and Schurrle). United are about to announce Alcantara joining and the Spuds got their main target, not to mention Liverpool signing one of the best keepers around and other decent players too

Isn't it funny how our business takes months though???

I said it right from the start with Gazidis - he doesn't have a single contact worthy of the name in world football. He's an overpaid administrator and Law his useless sidekick. Whether you liked Dein or not he had access to every chairman and owner around the world and got deals done.

Higuain isn't joining

That's all your opinion - I don't see top class amongst those players. The price of the transfer doesn't mean they are good enough. All I see a healthy batch of expensive squad players. Are any of those better than players Chelsea and City already have? How comes either of these teams didn't wrap up a deal for Falcao before Monaco?

What are you going to do if Higuain signs for Arsenal? you seem scared that we might sign someone good! It comes across as wishful thinking to be honest.

Of course it's my opinion, err......just like your post is your opinion. That tends to be how it works when you post something (unless you're odd enough to be posting someone else's opinion ???!!!)

If Arsenal sign Higuain, I will happily come on here and say I was wrong and will be delighted that we have signed a genuinely top class striker.

To Atletico Madrid? Should we ship him off?

If the offer was decent then yes - that is not me having a go at the guy but lets be honest and admit that at best he is a "make do" type of player but even at that we don't play the football and system that could maximise his talents  In my opinion I would happily take either Darren bent or remy (qpr) cos they would both bring regular goals plus they would bring the pace needed to latch onto those through balls from cazorla

I understand why some Gooners are calling for patience when it comes to transfer signings but are these the same Gooners who argue that we cannot compete with the financial power of other clubs ? How then does it make sense to hold off on your transfer business until the big boys come to the table ? There can be no doubt that one or two top quality players could and should have been recruited by now - cesar is crying out to be signed by a London club whilst david villa and higuain are hanging in shop windows with "for sale" tags around their necks  We all know that moaninho wants a striker or two so how will we all feel if he nabs higuain out from under our noses ? The same situation could apply with the scum possibly targeting villa and if the cards feel that way then we would be proper fcuked :x
