It amazes me how many footy fans do not know the offside rule.

“nearer to his opponents’ goal line” means that any part of a player’s head,
body or feet is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the
second-last opponent.

No mention of daylight.

Not sure if it ever made the rule book, but I think linesmen were told to look for "daylight" at one point. Whether that was by the FA or not, I'm not sure. I think that advice died away a while back though.

The "daylight" rule went out the window a few years back. A player is now offside if any part of the body which can be used to play the ball is in an advanced position. Giroud was definitely offside.

Technically we were playing away, so it does make sense to wear an away kit

Also, if both teams wore their home kits, the white shorts would match, so one of the teams would have had to change anyway.

Who cares? It's only a friendly. If playing a couple of friendlies in away shirts will help us sell some shirts, I don't see a problem. Profit is not God but it isn't Satan either.

And tradition? Didn't we spend a significant part of our pre-season in the Far East?

I remember the good old days we would wear red and white home and away unless we were playing manure or the scousers etc. I'd go back to that.

Only watched the highlight today - good finishing but looked all too easy for City to get in on goal still on several occasions - Kos still not strong enough to deal with some centre forwards and Per lets his man get blindside to him far too often for my liking.

Well played Ramsey, lovely pass for Theo's goal (despite Martin Hayes giving Wilshere the assist !) and Theo himself with a goal and 2 assists.

Was thinking the same. But I think neither teams played in away kit in premiership last year when we played them

Was thinking the same. But I think neither teams played in away kit in premiership last year when we played them

Guess they played in blue shorts. When United play at Citeh they change to black shorts.

Having grown up watching football in the 80s, it was always the case that even if the shorts clashed Arsenal would switch to their away kit. That's why we always wore yellow and blue at places like Man City, Everton, Leeds, Ipswich and Leicester. At Watford we just changed to white socks.

I distinctly remember how odd it looked to me seeing Arsenal games from the 70s when we would wear our red at Goodison and Elland Rd. But then when the PL started, it reverted back to only changing to away colours if the shirts clashed.

Nowadays of course, with the 3rd kit every team has, there is a minimum number of games a kit has to be worn to justify the need for it. As they are not needed at all and are obviously just another rip-off, this results in ridiculous changes like Arsenal wearing all blue at Wolves and Liverpool switching to all black at Norwich.
