best Sperz squad I've ever seen

Holtby better than Rosicky?

A number of posters bemoaned the Scum getting his signature, but he did nothing last season and was rarely first choice. A squad player at best.

However, I agree with the general point that the Scum have done their business early, even if none of their signings would have excited me if they'd come to us. They look decent, but hardly world-beating ... and if Monkeyboy goes?

what system are you suggesting, northbank? :proudtosay:

You could rate every player out of 100 for super quality, outstanding belief, mental strength and sideways-passability (Bale fair very poorly in this vital area   )

I'll let you run the numbers and post the ultimate Arsenal:Sp*rs team. You may also want to add double points if a players wages outstrip their contribution (this is where the Bendtner/Park/Diaby 'top trump' card can be played 8) )

You can't use a formula or anything to stack it up. You just have to take an overall view - of course you compare players etc to do this but saying X is better than Y and tallying it up is never going to give you a representative overall picture. People in the media have done this in the past two seasons and I've seen the teams 7-4 in favour of Arsenal or 10-1 in favour of Spurs  The difference between Dawson and Mertesacker for example is probably pretty slim - yet the difference between Podolski and Bale is phenomenal. You're ending up with a subjective analysis either way but better to have one overall subjective view than a numerical score based on loads of subjective judgement calls!

Szczesny being better than Lloris must be a joke. I'll make no apologies for harping on for the next decade about us not signing Lloris - at that price and with our options and goalkeeping history over the past decade it was completely criminal.

Also completely agree with Granada that Holtby is a classic "grass is greener" signing - and this forum last year was littered with people moaning about not going in for Dempsey, with some complaining already about them signing Capoue. If we'd signed these players they'd be downplayed (fairly imo) as just another average player not really much better (if any) that what we already have.

If they keep Bale, i think they're title challengers. If not they will fight Liverpool for 4th place.

Us on the other hand are a fucking laughing stock, where other fans and media pity us and take the piss. It is really sad that the French bloke and Gazidis have reduced our club to this.

Agree about title challengers, but don't think the mousers will be anywhere near 4th spot, Rodgers is a clown.

I still just can't believe they'll get anywhere near the title. They've got one quality player in Bale (if he stays) and then their squad is still packed full of average to good players. They're also perennial bottlers.

They have a squad that is miles better than ours :( The last 2 seasons they have had a meltdown in the last third,in 11-12 they had the fa cup to deal with and 12-13 albeit to a lesser degree the europa. Meanwhile we have came in with a late rattle both times to get us out of jail(out of all other competitions of course  )
This is the year his incompetence and awful management will finally come up and bite us on the arse,i just wish he would get to fuck :banghead:

If we fail to get Gustavo (a player we need, in the prime of his career with CL and WC experience) for the sake of a couple of million it will be a disgrace. Even myopic AW must realise that cheap deals for good players are not possible this window.

I'm glad we've got rid of most of the dross, but we're a couple of injuries away from mid-table.

I don't think we'll find many last minute bargains because clubs know we're getting desperate.

I think you read the papers too much. The spuds friendly media keep building them up but had it not been for Bale they would've finished 8th. Apart from the keeper I don't think I would take any of their squad. Bale was exceptional last half of season but can he do it again? Looking at the squad comparison what strikes me they have a lot of international squad players, ours tend to start in the first eleven for their international teams. Ramsey welsh captain, theo always ahead of lennon, doesn't vertonghan play LB for Belgium when TV5 is fit? Podolski 100+ caps defoe 30 odd from the bench. Nawh get real, our squad pisses on theirs as the same way Citeh and Chavski pisses over ours.

Yes our squad pissed over theirs by 1pt. Since then they have invested 50 million and AW reverted to default and bought French players of African descent on the cheap. I used to have your confidence. Last year I was pretty accurate with the OG season predictions but I haven't done it this year as I can't see us finishing above the scum without proven quality acquisitions.

Edit: Also, I don't subscribe to the hypothetical scenario of where they would have finished without Bale. Most said the same about us without RVP and claimed he single handedly got us in the CL. We are there again this year without him. If the scum sell Bale and continue to recruit then their squad will be stronger than last year.
