We should be going for top drawer not Jermaine fucking Defoe.
If Defoe isn't good enough for Spurs why would he be for us? I honestly don't understand it. Spurs fans moaned for years about strikers and he's had loads of chances to be a starter for them but he's never ever been consistent enough. They even sold him to Pompey at one stage!augie wrote:1989 wrote:31 in October.green gooner wrote:You could do a hell of a lot worse!!! Yeah and we should have signed cesar but instead we signed a keeper on loan from a 2nd division italian team and that is the arsehole wenker wayYou keep clinging to the hope that ozil is going to be the signal of things to come and while I do understand your need to cling to that hope, I will also say that it is as if the last few seasons transfer windows never happened
If we had of signed ozil on day 1 of the last transfer window and then followed that up with freebie moves for sonogo, vivian and flamoney, would anybody be confident that we were going to go forward with improved ambition in the transfer market ? Simply put, the money was there all summer long and yet he signed ONE quality player and that was in the last few minutes of the window (I know ozil wasnt available before then but lots of other quality players were).
Re defoe, I will say that he is the type of pacy natural goalscorer that we have lacked for a long time now and his age wouldnt deter me from signing him - what would deter me from signing him is his injury record and the belief that he is too ingrained in that club to ever be a success with us. There are a few scummer players that I would have no problem with us signing but defoe is there a long time and has a very good relationship with the knuckle draggers that populate that place and I am not sure that we could have knock that out of him
That's a slightly blinkered way of looking at things... He could of fallen out with village idiot or he may of gone stale and needs a new challenge. Look at Casillas's situation at Madrid, he cannot get his starting position back. But does that mean he is no longer a top class player?... No.If Defoe isn't good enough for Spurs why would he be for us? I honestly don't understand it. You didn't notice the whole thread about him?OneBardGooner wrote: Talking of strikers:
Arsenal and West Ham target Ciprian Marica, 27, is close to revealing the identity of his next club after the former Schalke striker, who is a free agent, confirmed he is in negotiations with three teams.
Full story: Daily Star
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and West Ham boss Sam Allardyce are both keen to add to their forward options and have identified the Romanian international as a key target.
A free agent since leaving German club Schalke at the end of last season, Marica confirmed he was closing in on his next move.

Never heard of him, also he's on a freebie so sounds right up AW's avenue!.![]()
I'm not basing it purely on him not starting, I was just using it as an example that Spurs were desperate and still he ends up on the bench. That's under more than one manager, too.Brady's left peg wrote:That's a slightly blinkered way of looking at things... I'm not saying that we should sign Defoe, but what I am saying is that just because he is not starting for the scum does not mean he is automatically not good enough for us.
