Re: The House of Cards is about to fall
Its quite pathetic really, I am not an AKB but some people in this forum really have to take a close look at themselves.
Personally, I am enjoying this season. Why do others actually want the team to fail just to prove a point.

I don't think anyone wants the team to fail, thats just plain ridiculous. Its just we've all been here before. We dare to get excited by early season promise and let ourselves believe for one second that this is our year (much like the mousers too) . Then come February we're out of 3 cups in 2 weeks, and lose our bottle in the league followed by a late charge in March to secure 4th spot.nut flush gooner wrote:Its quite pathetic really, I am not an AKB but some people in this forum really have to take a close look at themselves.

This year does feel different, but we are always 1 or 2 injuries away from disaster, and this is Arsenal, so injuries cant be far away.

On the plus side that definitely won't be happening this season!!gunner_ace wrote:I don't think anyone wants the team to fail, thats just plain ridiculous. Its just we've all been here before. Re: The House of Cards is about to fall
Disagree that it's ridiculous. The negativity this season (despite our form since March) and the speed at which the criticism arrives during and after poor results has convinced me there's people on here who genuinely don't want us to succeed and revel is the misery that defeat brings.... and, in fairness, some have admitted just that, by saying they would rather we struggled in order to expediate the demise of Wenger.gunner_ace wrote:I don't think anyone wants the team to fail, thats just plain ridiculous. Obviously, when I say they want us to fail, I mean in the short term. Long term, I've not doubt we all want success - it's just that some can enjoy the short term success and hope for more to come, whereas presumably others see it as the next step to Wenger's new contract and is therefore a negative.
I can see both sides and both have merit. Although, for my own sanity and wellbeing, I'm glad I'm able to enjoy this season (so far) without crippling myself with the long term negatives it may bring.

I find it funny how fickle most of the guys here are.
Arteta comes back from a long lay off and has 2 iffy games and he's written off and no one wants him playing. He was a beast against L'pool and yesterday.
Koscielny has a shakey start to the season and people want him out of the team. He's been our most solid defender in this great run [and at the end of last season].
Jesus Christ if some of you were managers we'd have a different starting XI every match.

Jaysus, less of the sweeping generalisations, please. "No one" wanted Arteta playing? That's a ridiculous statement.Wenger = GOAT wrote:I find it funny how fickle most of the guys here are.

I also don't remember that many people wanting Kos out of the team at the start of the season either. One or two maybe at most. If you are confusing this with people wanting us to sign better quality players then you need to realise that is a different matter entirely.
Maybe you'd find it less funny if you actually fucking read the threads before you comment on them with sweeping generalisations?

Re: The House of Cards is about to fall
I agree their is still a lot of negativity around, but then that's probably borne out of nearly 10 years of a cyclical pattern where we can almost set our watches by the teams rise, fall and rise again in a season. Hopefully this year will break that pattern, and like I said, something certainly feels different about this year.g88ner wrote:Disagree that it's ridiculous. However, to suggest any fan at the game, watching on TV, computer or whatever would set out to hoping we lose just to prove what their views are about wenger the board etc, well I just dont think you could ever give me an example of this, ever. When the ref blows the whistle we all back the team, and its as simple as that.

Re: The House of Cards is about to fall
I don't believe for a second ANYBODY here wants Arsenal to fail full stop. I think if you offered anybody the chance of us winning the league and them looking like a twat they'd bite yer hand off without a second thought, even the most miserable bastards.
I think that's completely different to the situation where people resent the short-term success because they're ultimate convinced that it won't do anything in the long run except buy Wenger another year and continue the cycle.
Not saying I agree with coming on here being exceptionally bitter when we win or smug when we lose but I think it's a misrepresentative simplification to suggest merely that people "want us to fail" or whatever.

Re: The House of Cards is about to fall
gunnerace and northbank123, you've both been on here long enough to have seen some posters actually want us to lose certain games so that Wenger gets the sack so i'm not sure why you're saying otherwise....
G88ner's post was spot on. There have been posts wanting us to miss out on the top four, posts begging our rivals to beat us so that Wenger gets humiliated. Posts about us getting hard ties in cups so that we are eliminated. I also remmeber one asking for the opposition team to score more in a game we were losing. All of these were said in the hope that our failure would lead to Wenger leaving. You ask those very same posters whether they would take us winning the league and Wenger getting a contract extension, or us missing out on top four and Wenger leaving at the end of the season, and they will take the second option every time!
Coming back to the original topic, even if we end up losing out on the PL, if we keep up this level of determination and effort, the team deserves credit not threads such as this everytime a game doesn't go our way. On the other hand, let's not get ahead of ourselves as there's a hell of lot more games left before we should even be thinking we are anywhere near to winning something and saying otherwise is just shortsighted.

Go and read some of the posts where Arteta just came back from injury against Norwich. Many were saying that the best role for him is to be backup and rotation player. On current form, probably one of the first names down on the teamsheet.DB10GOONER wrote: Jaysus, less of the sweeping generalisations, please. "No one" wanted Arteta playing? Again, read many posts on the first two games, specifically against Villa, and again many were slating Kos.I also don't remember that many people wanting Kos out of the team at the start of the season either. Just for the record mate,I want Arsenal to win every game that they play, and first started to go and watch them in 1984! I am just not swept up in all the current euphoria, and try to stay realistic about our chances in the Premiership etc.nut flush gooner wrote:Its quite pathetic really, I am not an AKB but some people in this forum really have to take a close look at themselves.

Loads of Football fans that I know,in the local pubs, shops, taxis are all banging on about how "Great" this current team is,and how we are going to "Win everything" this year. They are getting carried away with the hype. This lunch hour I ran into the wife of an Everton fan that I know,(and she to has been going to Goodison Park for years and knows her Football). The first thing she said to me was,"You lot are doing well this seaon," closely followed by,"But Arsenal are like the Christmas decorations, they start coming down in January."
I also know a local cabbie Gooner who went to every home game in the 1971 Double Winning Season, and he is worried that we will either bottle it again,or fail to strengthen in the upcoming Transfer window, and pick up injuries to impotant players that will effect the "Run-In."
I maintain that we are only 2 or 3 injuries away from the 4th place "trophy" fight. I was also at the "Villa" game on the opening day of the Season and saw first hand how shit we were, and that wasn,t that long ago!!!
But Flamini is back, and as long as Howard Webb doesn,t Referee the game we stand a chance,
COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!!

I do worry though that if we falter at all quite a few fans will start to falter in their support which can only rub off on the players.
One loss against Dortmond after 2 small mess ups and in a controversial cup and out come the Arsene out brigade. FFS
Mentally the Dortmond game was a real demonstration of mental toughness thats been lacking for way too long.
Not to mention the 1-0 to The Arsenal which hasnt been ground out for So SO long

That is why (for moi) this game against the mancsumcunts is such a BIG game...I know they've been average this season, but will be well up for the game against us....so the best outcome for us is (of course) not only winning but humiliating the crunts on their own turf...Rugby Gooner wrote:Just for the record mate,I want Arsenal to win every game that they play, and first started to go and watch them in 1984!
