I saw Les Mis in March, was fantastic to be fair. Probably take the girlfriend to go see Phantom of the Opera or Billy Elliot this year, anybody seen either?

Trouble Sleeping Quartz?

I went to see "Goodnight Mr Tom" earlier in the year for the wife's birthday.
Quite a good adaptation actually.
I discovered that it was the first stage dramatisation to use hand controlled animals. I'm told that it inspired the type of puppetry used in the stage production of "War Horse".

Not a bad show to see but it has finished now.

I don't really get to the theatre much these days. The cost is often prohibitive but the biggest problem is that Mrs Spuddy works nights so the opportunities to go are few. When we do get time there is normally something more pressing that needs to be done.

I saw a similarly advertised show in Amsterdam a few years ago. Wasn't like you describe though... Oh, the humanity...

Enjoyed Billy Elliott a lot, probably in part because thats the era of my youth

I haven't seen it myself yet but it is apparently on Mrs Spuddy's list of things to go and see.

I've seen Les Mis about a dozen times now. I never get bored of it. Matt Lucas was superb in it a couple of years ago.
I saw Phantom back in the early 90's and was impressed with it but one of the best I saw was Miss Saigon. There was also quite a funny story to it.
My girlfriend at the time was the manager of the Harewood Hotel in Marylbone. She used a regular ticket agent to get tickets for visiting Americans. As she did a lot of business he agreed to get her tickets if she wanted to see a show. He also fancied her like crazy, it was so obvious. She was seriously hot and I was definitely batting above my level with her.
One day he offered her top seats at Drury Lane to see Miss Saigon. he told her there were two tickets available and would she like to go. She agreed, phoned me and arranged to meet me in London to go on to the theatre that night. When we arrived I was a little behind her as I got seperated temporarily. When he saw her his face lit up. I heard him tell her he was so glad she had agreed to come. She then turned to acknowledge me and told him that I was her boyfriend and we were grateful for the tickets. His face hit the floor and embarrassed, he handed them over. I was pissing myself inside but didn't let it show. It hadn't occured to her that he was asking her on a date!
We watched the show from excellent seats that were made even better by what went before.
Even afterwards I had to explain to her what had happened. She didn't use him again as an agent!

100% true too.
If you'd had been there you'd have pissed yourself as well.
I couldn't see how she didn't notice that this poor bastard's life had just imploded. I think he was planning on giving her a good reaming after the show but ended up going home for a solo knuckle shuffle.
He shot me a bit of a look as he handed the tickets over. I just smiled politely.

saw it about 5 years ago and planning to go again in the new year
not the biggest fan of jukebox musicals but this has a really good story and was suprised at how many four seasons songs i knew
the guy playing the lead had a better voice than frankie vallie
went to a club in wardour st after called gaz,s rockin blues run by the son of john mayell[of bluesbreakers fame]
youngsters dressed to the nines in mod fashion and music spanning the clash,jam,motown,atlantic soul, new wave,northern and ella frank etc swing,great to see kids having a go rather than hiding in hoodies
one man two guvnors
took my 2 teenage/early twentys daughters and we laughed our heads off at good old fashioned slapstick fun
rufus hound played the lead and was very good engaging with the audience
got tickets for 12 quid in the haymarket theatre and despite being up in the gods it was fine
matilda
went with my partners 13 year old daughter and her 60 year old mum plus a couple of 20 somethings
and all ages enjoyed the show
its a real family production with tim minchin writing songs that whilst wordy have enough bite and spice to keep all amused
dahl did,nt really buy into the all kids are cute thing and this production is faithful to his work
the curious incident of the dog in the night time
this is an absolute must see
the story of a boy with autism
fantasticaly staged on a sparse set
1 was staggered with the performance of the young lead managing to remember a wordy text[and numbers too]
but don,t let that put you off
this is funny, touching and despite being a book for young adults a very grown up production
the boy i saw was the understudy but you would never have known
i fucked up when buying tickets as a cabby i was trying to find weekends that were not busy workwise
ie all the hyde park concert weekends are busy in the cab, tumbled into august, so ended up booking tickets for the opening day of the football season
was confident that we would have a game moved for tv but no the villa game was 3 pm saturday
felt odd on a tube going past the arsenal on a matchday
1st game without a season ticket and 1st game missed at the emirates for yonks
but even in these circumstances the play held attention
i can,t praise it higher than that
maybe i dodged a bullet missing the villa game but i still feel like i missed a pivotal days gooning
hope this helps
i love a trip to the theatre and i think with the talent on display it represents better value than the cinema
which i believe when taking the family even without buying a bucket of popcorn and gallon of coke is a rip off
