SOUTHAMPTON GAME THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Our lead is fortuitous so we really have to turn up second half and wallop this team. To be fair Southampton are very strong & good on the ball too.

That Wanyama is impressive although he does seem to have diplomatic immunity from conceding fouls..

He's doing a brilliant job (unfortunately for us) in front of their defense.

he's being allowed to be very physical. he (and they) are definitely controlling the middle of the park though, we're getting nothing through there.
was a bit anoying to see the ref let him bully us all half, then give him a free kick for that 50/50 with giroud

Think that time when he charged into Wilshere on the edge of the box was a definite foul and once when he kicked Cazorla from behind. Neither given

Think so far giroud has been our best player, never gave up for the goal & hes defended well for us in the few times we were under pressure from corners

Since gifting us a goal we haven't actually put the keeper under any pressure!

Wanyama is doing very well although lucky to get away with shoulder charge and should have been booked for the tug on Cazorla which slowed him up enough to allow him to get the tackle in.

We played very well first 25 minutes and without quite hitting full stride we looked assured in possession and were creating chances. Since then we've sat back completely and if we continue it in the second half we'll more than likely get punished. We're not going to play at full tempo for 90 minutes but the habit we have of stopping playing for long periods is poor.
