It shouldn't take more than about 15 mins more than the tube. What time are you leaving?BournemouthRED wrote:Right, the earliest i reckon I can get to the game using the overground is 8!

6.30pm from Paddington during a tube strike, you might miss the game?Peeman wrote:Question for chippy
If I leave the morning of the match I will be getting to paddington at 6.30pm. How would I be fixed for a tube or taxi. I presume traffic will be mental at that time as well. Alternatively I could leave the night before and get to paddington in the morning at 7.30 am which would cut out all the rushing around but would be banjaxed after travelling all night.
Forget taxis, the queue will be horrendous.
If you get tube, Circle/Hammersmith & City Line to King's Cross, then Victoria Line to Highbury & Islington.
I know it would cost more, but if you get there in the morning, maybe book a room at one of the hotels along the Seven Sisters Rd (Best Western Highbury? Kent Hall?) and then kip during the day.
You could at least then walk to the game in 30 minutes.

If you get into Waterloo at 6.30pm, get Northern Line, Southbound from Waterloo one stop to Kennington (5 minutes).
Then change platform and get Northern Line (Bank Branch) to Angel (25 minutes).
From there get the 43 bus along Upper Street and Holloway Road to the stadium.
With bus lanes that will take 20 minutes, and it stops right by Holloway Road tube, so it is just 5 minutes walk from there.
Back up is get Jubilee line to Green Park.
Then get Victoria Line to Highbury and Islington.
The Jubilee usually runs an OK service in strikes, as it is now considered the premium line because of Canary Wharf, so they make a special effort to run a decent service.
Green Park will be a bit less crowded than Oxford Circus, which closes on normal days in rush hour never mind during a strike.
Interchange there will take 10 minutes with a recovering knee.

Re: Manure game tube strike.
Surely they won't call the game off a week before regardless of the tube strike ffs!
Fans now have trains , hotels etc booked from all over the place (i.e me from Scotland) and most won't see their money refunded if it's called off.
Everyone going to the game have had more than enough time to arrange alternative methods of transport.
I get that it will be a total mess without the tubes but there are other ways to get home

Still don't see them calling it off. There's no liability like with inclement weather where people may injure themselves on the concourse or steps. The club don't have to refund fans who can't make it and the ill-feeling will predominantly fall on the Tube workers and not the club. Plus - as much as it shouldn't be a factor - would they really want the game postponed to be crammed in at a later date?

As I'm only ever in London for the Arsenal I've never witnessed a tube strike and how disastrous it can be but as I said in my previous post I think people have had enough time to arrange other plans.
Anyway fingers crossed it remains on and we beat these manc C***S

Seriously Quartz the Northern line is the pits when running a full service, the only way he'll do that is with an AK47.QuartzGooner wrote:My advice is:Chippy wrote:Fair enough but the tube wouldn't be much better.BournemouthRED wrote:it says the overground takes 50mins from clapham junction? then I've got to walk (not that fast after having knee surgeryChippy wrote:It shouldn't take more than about 15 mins more than the tube. Yeah exactly - whilst it would be a huge pain in the arse the majority of attendees will have had the foresight and flexibility to make necessary alternate travel arrangements.scotgooner wrote:Thanks for keeping my optimism alive Northbanknorthbank123 wrote:Still don't see them calling it off. Only those who have booked travel or have other commitments are completely screwed, although even then they can sometimes be worked around!
Re: Manure game tube strike.
The only way this might work out well is if everyone does what Mrs Chippy is doing tomorrow, working from home because of the tube strike and the weather. #nosuchthingasclimatechange

Cheers for the help lads
I'm gonna check to see if I can amend my train ticket and leave earlier. This does mean that I will end up drinking earlier and the chances of me being at work on Thursday are very slim

Better than the Bakerloo, a nasty sweaty stunted stub of a line with a permanently intermittent service North of Queens Park!Chippy wrote:

There is no easy way from Waterloo during a strike or at rush hour, simple as that.
