Re: The most pathetic Arsenal performances...
one result that was quietly forgotten this season was our annual CL defeat in December.
if I recall all we had to do was to avoid a 2-0 defeat and we would top the group thus avoiding a difficult last 16 tie.
the tactical incompetence of Wenger could not even manage that though.
so we now have to play a very difficult CL 1st leg tie at home just days after a crucial FA Cup match.
all of this could have been easily avoided...

Unfortunately these type of performances didn't just arrive with Wenker
Of course the worst one's of these are when we've actually made it to final, then just not turned up.
Ipswich 1978
West Ham 1980
and Galatasaray 2000
are 3 that stand out, of course the Birmingham debacle more recently and I'm sure older fans will point to Swindon 1968

the problem is that back when we were losing to teams like York City and Wrexham the fans were not playing £50-£90 to watch games.
if the club charge that sort of money then the fans are going to demand a cup at least every 5 years...

It was Jagielka, though I seem to remember him tipping a Van Judas volley over in stoppage time. Followed by Warnock ,wearing a smile usually reserved for seeing one of his players smash the ball 50 feet in the air, parading an embarrassed Jagielka around the pitch like a man with a wife 30 years his juniorgoonersid wrote:Jagielka???swimmer1 wrote:Sheffield United away lost 1 nil they were down to 10 men as there goalie got sent of put a outfield player in goal and we had a total of no shots on target

Quite a few of them have come up already on here and it's no coincidence that most of them have come under the coach of the decade's leadership. To the list, I'd add Braga away in the Champions League in 2010 when we were beaten and didn't even look interested against a shit team in an old quarry.

I would say that champions league thrashing of UTD a few years back. Sure the 8-2 was humilliating but look at the squad.

Not sure that the momey is relevant to the embarassment- its as painful if we spend naught and shout and cry at the black and white TV in the corner.Gunner Rob wrote:the problem is that back when we were losing to teams like York City and Wrexham the fans were not playing £50-£90 to watch games.

I would have thought that it was very relevant otherwise what was the point in leaving Highbury?
Re: The most pathetic Arsenal performances...
There have been so many under Wenger, most of them against utd,
An fa cup drubbing a few seasons back
The clge home game
A 3-1 home league defeat 4 or 5 seasons ago (the last game i attended and when I made my decision not to return until wenger pisses off)
The 8-2
The 6-1
Wednesday 12th February 2014 ??????????

Bristol City at Highbury in I think 77/78? They were pretty boring that night...
Re: The most pathetic Arsenal performances...
In terms of recent years, losing to Liverpool, Ac Milan, United etc. etc. just doesn't compare to the Bradford defeat.
Just shouldn't be losing to lower league opposition in that manner, so they'll always be worse. Birmingham in the CC final was equally dire in terms of the occasion.
In the Wenger era it has to be Bradford, for what happened, for how it happened, for what it signified.
