My only regret with pizza-gate is that it wasn't a deep-fried one, still in the deep fat fryer.northbank123 wrote:Agree. Disappointed in the way he let us down in the last half a season when his heart clearly wasn't in it but the experience of watching Arsenal 2006-2011 would have been fractionably as enjoyable if it wasn't for him. Although I'm sure people would disagree given the last few months at the club, I always appreciated what the club clearly meant to him. I remember how much he hated Cole, really fucking hated him, and how he tried to break him in two in stoppage time at our place in 2007/08. Also hated Ferguson (cf Pizzagate!) and I'll never forget his reaction to scoring THAT goal against the Scum. Loved the combativeness and the intensity of the PL which isn't genuinely true for that many foreigners.
Some of the stuff in his last few months was slightly overstated too, imo. Against Barca away he was by all accounts playing with an injury (hamstring?), I seriously doubt his flick on the edge of the box that led to their 1st was borne out of pure nonchalance, maybe partly lack of mobility. The Fulham game where he was at the spanish grand prix or whatever was a bit of a piss take, but it's hardly uncommon for injured players to piss off elsewhere. When Messi was injured recently he went back to Argentina by all accounts. Could/should have been handled more tactfully but weighed up against everything he gave for us over the years it's a minor blot.
My main issue with him was summer 2010 during the world cup. Every day for the duration of it you'd have pique and the rest of them prattling on about his barca dna at every opportunity & how unfair it would be to keep him against his will etc, with Cesc seemingly doing nothing to stop the obviously coordinated campaign. Whereas a few weeks before he'd stood in front of the cameras after the same sort of thing acting all angry talking about how Arsenal deserved more respect. Cant have it both ways, if you're happy to demand more respect for your club (and receive the praise that comes with that) when you're surrounded by them, you should be man enough to do the same when you're at a safe distance surrounded by your "new" mates.
Matter of fact, fuck him after all, the dago bastard.

Don't forget Ballack, Anderson and Fat Frank as well.northbank123 wrote:Agree. He was the only success story from that depressing "project" era. World class player with a passion for Arsenal.

Fully agree, just wonder how would people view him if the Manure stories this Summer were correct and he ended up there next season1989 wrote:He was the only success story from that depressing "project" era. World class player with a passion for Arsenal.

It would really upset me

why would Fabregas want to leave Barcelona?
he made enough fuss about wanting to play there and he is only now full establishing himself into the first team

As a player I fcuking love cesc and would love to see him back at the club and there isnt a player that we currently have that I wouldnt be willing to sacrifice in order to make that happen. I really do believe that he does sincerely have deep rooted affection to the club that say, someone with a little boy inside him didnt have
In recent years we have had few world class players within our club and it really saddens me to see them depart year on year
This year it looks for all the world that sagna will be joining that list and the groundhog rebuilding process continues on the same "never get there cycle"

Cesc was one of the best talents we had at the club but I wouldn't agree he was a rare success story from the doomed "project" as he signed before the project was in place, even though he played for us through the project years. Therefore I'd say Cesc was a success in spite of the project and not as a rare example of good that came out of it.
That goal against the vermin, where from the kick off he dribbled around 52 scum players twice each and then slotted (well that's how I remember it!
) was just fantastic and should always be honoured in NLD folklore.
I still think it is criminal that Arsene didn't build a better team around Cesc.

Agree, though you never know what goes on behind the scenes of course- the rumours were pretty strong.Gunner Rob wrote:why would Fabregas want to leave Barcelona?

The rumours were strong because they were leaked by United, who then fanned the flames by announcing their Chief Exec was returning home from tour to conclude transfer business.
Barcelona are never going to get strong-armed so they don't need to go on the offensive with a "not for sale" statement or whatever, United's interested was probably the equivalent of a pesky fly. Even in his BBC interview last week when asked on it Fabregas barely even managed the 'respectfully flattered' impression.
I'm not saying he would never go there because he loves Arsenal too much, I just didn't think it was ever in danger of happening this summer and I haven't seen anything to change my mind since.

Why would Fabregas go to United? It'd be nothing but a huge step down.

For some reason, I can't see anything but a Milan win in the other match.

Thought this thread was about games in season 2018/19 and changes to the format?
