Bonsoir Mathieu Debuchy,Le Gooner

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

meh. we needed a replacement for sagan and we got the closest thing to him we could. not overwhelmed, but at least as steveo says, we're signing players ready for the first team.

Could be worse - at 28 at least he should be somewhere around his peak. Proper U-turn from the days of signing 17 year old never-will-be's from the back of beyond
But Newcastle IS from the back of beyond!

I don't mind us targeting a steady RB, it's unrealistic to expect swashbuckling quality from 1-11 and I'd rather have somebody dependable there than gamble on a maverick. That said I'm not convinced Debuchy fits that bill - even for a Barcode defender he had an alarming number of stinkers in games I watched. Sagna offered nothing going forward but he did his job defensively and moreover Mertesacker was clearly comfortable alongside him - I'm not overwhelmed by us risking that so we can go and spunk away a not insubstantial amount on a player of Debuchy's calibre (and age).

My missus' family are all mad Geordies and her uncle is a typical Newcastle fan with deluded opinions of their club and players (e.g. Steven Taylor is fucking brilliant) but even he was adamant that Debuchy is not good enough for Arsenal and the reported £12m fee would see them laughing all the way to the bank.

Still, at least it's sorted I guess and we're not looking at Aurier or worse Jenkinson.

Debuchy may not spark any BBQs but we had to buy a RB and I didn't see many suggestions of who would be better options.

Coleman has had one good season. I like him but he would've cost a fortune. Other than that what possible options were there.

I'm not delighted but not worried about this signing.

Is this bloke not a like for like with BacSag other than he's younger, bit quicker and keeps Sagna out of the French team? A slight improvement is still an improvement.

This is the best our scouting team could come up with.

"We want you to stay Bacary Sagna we want you to stay" -- which mug sang this at the end of last season and feels a little bit foolish now. Good riddance - we've got a BETTER player now who has accepted a fair wage.

So far one world class player and a right back which is what we actually needed! Arsene might actually know something :barscarf:

Have any of you people on this forum actually"worked even half a day in football". .? Well when you've been a manager for at least 30 years then maybe you're entitled to an opinion on who the great messiah signs, until then be happy with the sanagos, mendez's,silvestres's,santos's,park's and denilsons of this great scouting network!!
