The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Just heard on MOTD2 how much Manure are paying for Di Maria( 60m), he is never worth that.

I would file that one under Real Madrid seeing the desperation in Ed Woodward's eyes. Apparently the fee went up by 20m this week.

So Toni Kroos was available for 20m a player they really neede, they miss out on him and are paying well over the odds for a winger. A world class one,but a winger none the less. :banghead:

Who will be our top scorer

""Giroud, Alexis, Ramsey, Sanogo and Walcott could all be among the goals - but who will top Arsenal's scoring chart?""

Not too hard to spot the joker in there!
Haven't seen the poll mate, but did they even include Joel Campbell....I hope the feck he gets more games than sanogo....He just needs the chance of a run of games to settle in and prove his worth (or not?)... :?
Not a mention of campbell...that doesnt bode well for him unfortunately!

Not quite sure who you mean...could you elaborate :rubchin:

In other news Kostas Manolas was again left out of Olimpiacos 3-1 win against Niki Volos after declaring himself unfit.

Juve have already reinforced in defence but Roma are also sniffing around because Benatia is off to Bayern. Hope he prefers England to crap Serie A.

Wich was so bloody obvious yesterday from the nature of our goals when they finally came, the stark opposite of what Ozil and Wilshere had been trying to do the previous hour in threading inch perfect balls through the middle. Sure, When Walcott is fit Giroud can be used as a hold up interplay forward, with Walcott and Sanchez running past him (when he gets his fitness). With Ozil feeding them (finally something for our 42m superstar do) that can work, as we saw at home lt season when Walcott was fit.

The key is that when that isn't working, we have to employ plan B a bit earlier than we did against Everton. Giroud is an top international quality player attacking crosses with his head and he's got a fair few that way with his feet too running toward the near post. If the tippy tappy shit isn't working (as it rarely does away from home) we need to get it out wide QUICKLY and be piling balls into the box QUICKLY for Giroud (plus whoever else) to be getting on the end of.
If I could rep this post on these boards I'd do it 1,000 times.

and this is precisely why so many are angry with Wenger.

I could think back to even, say, 3 years ago or so, when Bendtner would come off the bench with 12minutes left in the game and we'd start launching balls forward into the box in desperation mode when we were behind or tied late.

sometimes we'd score, and sometimes not, but what we did do was create chances, hit the woodwork, and cause havoc.

it was another dimension to our game, a change. It just doesn't seem like we have that. If ticky taka isn't working it's just our bad luck.

You realize if we manage to get past Besiktas, it's nailed on that Juve, in Pot B, will end up in our group in the champions league group stages.

Odds on Poldi to show AW what he can do when played in the right position.

If the Gustavo that's been solid for Wolfsburg for the last 12months turns up then fine but if the Gustavo that playe for Brazil in the World cup turns up then we may as well get Tiote because that one was sh*t.

Personally I don't rate Gustavo at all - he seems to be the type of DM that breaks up play by the odd interception and a load of petty fouls - I prefer my DMs to be able to fight for and win possession in the engine room, and the type of player whose presence immediately intimidates the opposition

On the right hand side of that page in the mirror link, it highlights a piece where le cock announces that Giroud can be his 25 league goals a season man

Can I also say that I am totally against the idea of loaning podolski anywhere - personally I would rather sell him away cheap than to allow a wealthy club like juve take him on loan. There is a lot of talk about the likes of chelski hoovering up so man good young players only to loan them out, but there is no-one highlighting the fact that the Italian league is a haven for loan deals where even the big clubs loan players rather than buy them  Podolski is no unproven rookie so they should be told to either stump up the cash or fcuk off

I think we'll make two last minute signings an hour before the window closes.....and it's a nightmare.

Song will return because Wonga will see him as both a defensive midfielder (sic) and cover for central defence......both areas he is shit in....

and Kalou, as a replacement for Poldi.

So our transfer business could look roughly like this....

Money in -

TV - 15m
Vela reported fee - 12m
Fabregas reported sell on fee - 5m
Podolski - 12m?
Eisfield - 1m

Plus around 7 other players gone, some with large salaries meaning more big savings...

Total 45m

Money Out -

Sanchez - 30
Chambers - 16m
Debuchy - 10m
Ospina - 3m

Total 59m

If Song came on a free loan as he is reportedly available and Kalou for 3m then total net 'spend' could be 17m.
Hardly a change in policy! This is disgraceful from Arsenal. The window is still open of course, and Wonga WILL make a couple of last ditch attempts on the final day as he always does, but we have a shit load of money available, why are we not signing TOP quality?? All because of one senile old muppet. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
