Previous Liverpool v Arsenal matches (Anfield)

Not that bad anymore, far better than going to either Manchester or Birmingham teams IMO

Been there once for football. Full of *word censored* with stupid accents who think they're funny. Whole place looks like The Luftwaffe have just visited- and that's the decent parts.

Herds first visit to Anfield on his birthday as a teenager ,witnesses this cracker of a match played on a mudbath pitch .

Laden with birthday money I set off on my own in my brand new sheepskin coat from Chatham about 9.30 whizzing through Victoria and up to Euston ,catching a special at about 10.45 .
Id never been there and neither had most of the people traveling but there where thousands making the trip that day.
At Lime Street no one seemed to know where to go or what to do , some started walking but i followed some lads and we got the bus from across the street , huge mistake.
Bus drops people off outside the Kop crawling with mousers who by know knew the cockney bastards were coming ,and a Boy with a sheepy doesn't come from liverpool where they were dressed like tramps.
After some jostling I managed to walk down the side to the Anfield road end just as large groups of Arsenal start to arrive and all go in . The anfield road end isnt segregated and many in there thought they would attack the cockneys but we had 3 or 4 thousand in there and took the back making quite an noise too ,something not done at that time .
Match was topsy turvy but I remember Alan ball getting abused by the Liverpool fans all through the match so when he rammed in the penalty he was pretty chuffed .
Radford the King got the 2nd and it was game over ................but not for us !
After the match the scousers went beserk and the Arsenal support seemed to melt as we walked down the road. There was no things as escorts and the coppers just laughed as the liverpool piled in all over the place ..... people just sort of kept their heads down and tried to blend in but I walked all the way back down scotland road and back towards lime street with in a highly nervous state.

Just when Lime street was in sight and I thought it was safe I walked down the road with st Georges hall on the right when a bunch O'scallies came out of an amusement arcade and tried to mug me for my sheepy . I was terrified but I was more terrified of my dad who would have blown a gasket if he knew id gone up there on my own . Quick as a flash i popped my automatic umbrella and in the nano second of surprise as they stood back i brushed 1 aside ran back to lime street faster than linford christie on steroids !
But to my horror when I got there people were getting mugged as they tried to board the train to london which was on platform 1 some of them were even on the train .........no barriers on platform 1 then !!!!!
By now though id built up such a head of steam and adrenaline so I jumped on the train and promptly locked myself in the toilet.
Eventually the train pulls out and we start the journey home however I didn't come out and till we had crossed the Mersey estuary at runcorn just to be sure.

Ive been to anfield many times but this was the scariest, but we won and in my eyes I had won too ,losing a brolly was considered a worthy sacrifice for my lovely sheepskin coat !

Next day my dad comes in my room and asked me how my day was before he headed off to Golf as usual and I made up some old bullshit and then he notices something on the floor ...........yesterdays programme from anfield ..........the game was UP !

5 Years later the Herd came back with his pals for a league cup semi..........this time there was to be no more mr nice guy !
Why on earth did you think getting your cock out would help???

Poldi's 1st goal for the club and the game was run from start to finish by the great Abou - quite rightly awarded MOTM (again) that day. One of the most complete midfield performances I've ever seen (since his last one :D )

Have to say it's one of my favourite games ever. We lost to Newcastle at home a few days before and forget Sky Sports "most unpredictable season ever" bollocks they come up with every year, halfway through that season and there were 4 or 5 teams knocking around up there. This was a massive massive massive game and we had been on the end of a few unfortunate scorelines in preceding years at Anfield.

Durkin sent van Bronckhorst off in the first half - second yellow for diving. I remember it being incredibly harsh and remember Gio certainly didn't appeal. Nonetheless we scored a pen just before half time, think Dudek brought down Freddie and could well have walked himself. I also remember Cole managing to clear one off the line despite tripping over his own feet!

Ljungberg's goal was again, one of my favourite ever. Pires absolutely mugged off Gerrard and cut the ball across for Freddie to turn in at the near post and he ran along the fans who were going absolutely ballistic (half of us had Santa hats on as I remember  ). Even though they pulled a goal straight back from a sliced shot looping up for Litmanen to tap in at the far post we held on for nearly the whole second half with 10 men.

Was a huge result in the context of the season and especially the way in which we played most of it with 10 men.
Bloody hell, what a day that was; in the legendary (in my mind, anyway) gold away kit. Probably still in my top ten games of all time ; think I had been to Anfield four times previous to that and had achieved a solitary point and zero goals scored.

Don't think I have ever sung 'TEN MEN, WE ONLY HAD TEN MEN!' with such gusto as I did at the end

Missed the real champagne moment mate - Kanu dumming the ball to let it go out for a throw.

Doesn't sound that good but if you were there it was priceless.

Not as good as 'Wenger's greatest ever achievement' of last season's 4th place trophy my friend
I had a Manure fan at work use this as a genuine defence of Wenger today - he said "you may have lost 5-1, 6-0, 6-3 and 3-0 all in the same season... but what other manager can do that and still finish fourth?" Surreal :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Been up there loads of times. 26/5/89 was obviously the best and last season was probably the worst.
The Stanley knife episodes in the 80s are never forgotten. Thoroughly horrible bunch

My only visit August 99, a tremendous day on the beer with mates ruined by an utterly dreadful 90 minutes of football (seems that is normal supporting Arsenal!)

Lost 0-2, Fowler scored right at the beginning and we never got in the game. I recall this was when Red Bull had just been released and the Wetherspoons at Lime Street had some ridiculously cheap promotion on, something like two quid for a double vodka and red bull, it was dangerous!
