Re: Time to bench Chesney/Goalkeeper problem?

Wenger bought a very good 'keeper in Lehmann and that summer almost bought Rustu (the Turkish 'keeper who had a brilliant WC). Were they based on his judgement or Dein's? He has had a torrid time with 'keepers since.

I thought we had all but signed Rustu back in 2002. Turns out Wenger disrespected him

Rustu Recber has today revealed why he chose not to join Arsenal this summer: Arsene Wenger disrespected him during transfer talks.

The Turkey goalkeeper, who instead signed for Barcelona, claims his advisers had agreed terms for him to join the Gunners, only for the deal to break down thanks to Arsene Wenger doubting his fitness.

"Wenger seemed obsessed with my back and asked if it gave me problems," Recber told the London Evening Standard today. "I told him it was fine but he insisted on getting a second opinion.

"That annoyed me and I told him that I wasn't some 19-year-old he could treat as he wanted.

"I told Wenger that if he didn't believe me then he hadn't bothered watching me in the World Cup. That was the point at which everything collapsed."

It's schoolboy stuff really.

That isn't to say he shouldn't be dropped on his arse for being a cocky twat without backing it up on the field however. :cussing:

He looks good, but its a big call against a side who will focus on a short GK
If youre not willing to give a keeper a chamce at home to Stoke because of the opposition then he shouldnt be here.

Hes played in the World Cup.

Ospina is a good goal keeper, those of you who saw him in the world cup should agree, he is a decent shot stopper but more importantly for us at the moment even though shorter than a lot of goalies out there he is commanding in the box and gives his defence rock all when they fuck up, something we desperately need at the moment.

I know he made a mistake against 'them' but tbh he was just coming back from injury and as with a number of players he needs matches to get fully confident, trust me if he gets a run he will prove is worth and will definitely be less prone to howlers than Scez. :barscarf:

Wenger "fuming" over Szczesney smoking... Valdes looks like joining Man U as back up for DeGea , he would be a good option.

I especially like the part where he says that he rates almunia as high as he rates cech

Re victor valdes, I would have been opposed to signing him 3 months ago but now, due to Chesney's arrogance and performances and ospina's diaby syndrome (constantly injured  ), I would support the idea of him joining us. We don't just need top quality in these central positions, we also need to be seen to have top quality players in these positions - a team that has a spine containing valdes, ozil and sanchez with a quality centre back and DM added, would command respect from opposition teams and potential incoming signings

From the comments section on the Szczesny article on the main page:

I made my feelings quite clear on this imbecile about 3 years ago on the online gooner forum. He was an arrogant moron then and 3 years on little has changed. Get him out of the club!

Gone, but not forgotten. He fails to mention he also wanted Denilson as our "first choice midfielder", and that Walcott "was our only world-class player".

Failure to sign:

a quality goalkeeper to replace Lehmann
a quality striker to replace RVP
a quality DM to replace Gilberto
a CB to replace Vermaelen

Wenger is hell bent on making us a club with no hope of winning the league and CL and only good enough to secure a CL spot.

Wenger passed on Lloris, which was surprising considering he is:

a) French

And

b) French

I suppose spending £11m on a goalkeeper would be “dizzying”.

From BBC Gossip:

"Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, 24, expects to regain his place in the Arsenal team to face Stoke City on Sunday, despite the furore over him smoking a cigarette in the shower area of the dressing room after his most recent appearance. (Guardian) (external)"

Great culture Le Twat has established here. He'd be bricking it if Jose was his manager.
Colney Crèche FC? He expects to stroll straight back in (and he probably will)
