He was excellent to be fair today. Positioning spot on, hassled well without diving in and his distribution was very impressive. Firstly, hopefully he can turn in this sort of performance in big games in future. Secondly, let's hope he can show this sort of discipline in other games against lesser opposition. The Hull game was like watching Song - trying to do too much with the ball, diving into tackles, being too cavalier. if Coquelin wants to make it then he'll have to be satisfied with doing the dull legwork in every game.

At 24 years old he finally turns in a worthwhile performance and you think that he should get a new contract on the back of that one performance ?? I was really hopeful that he would make it a few years ago but his career never progressed and I am actually embarrassed that le cock would say publicly that coquelin could be a big player for us - this is the same manager that has rarely used him to date has sent him out on loan soooo many times even though at his age he should be a first team regular for the past two seasons IF HE WAS GOOD ENOUGH.

Maybe he was always good enough just his attitude has changed. By his own admission his loan at Charlton had changed his view. It's a case of a player realising how lucky he is at Arsenal and what life would be like in the lower leagues, which is where he would've been heading. Hope he gains confidence and starts to deliver for us regularly.

I am serious.

The Man City performance was indicative of how he has been playing this season, my wish for him to get a new contract was not about just that performance.
He always had good potential to me, from the debut at Barnet in 2008.
But he gave the ball way too often in previous seasons.

The qualities he showed against City were tactical awareness, organisational skill and positional awareness.
Those cannot be one-off flukes.

His age is 24. So what?
He has been loaned in the past. So what?
The qualities he showed take time to learn, they are akin to what a centre back needs and good young centre backs are rare.

He has also got physically stronger since he was last with us.

His ability to play three positions plus the qualities I mentioned above plus the consistency he has shown this season mean I want him to get a new deal.

But I also want us to go and buy a top level defensive midfielder too.

Three positions Quartz? Give it a rest.

He was excellent on Sunday but has showed indiscipline and a lack of brain function in previous games, notably Hull at home.

I really hope he kicks on but as much as anything else he needs to stop getting ideas above his station and demonstrate that he is content with the same basic role in every game and not just in tough away games.
