not to mention the united cup match when mclair missed his penalty, the *word censored*
I was in the east lower for that villa cup game
The clock end was heaving woodcock put us in front but it was a rare goal from Vladimir petrovic after taking a ball from hollins that sunderland dummied before scoring
Having just had a look at it on you tube it is not dissimilar to bellerins goal last week v liverpool
I never made the semi final
Car conked out at Swiss cottage(least I didn't get too far) whenever there was a problem I used to put oil in it
I flooded the *word censored*
Still don't ave a scooby about mechanics

I lived in Drayton Park at the time when my my sister and I went to Highbury fields to play on the swings we were confronted with masses of drunken people draped in red white n blue and tartan with iffy mullet Rod Stewart haircuts who it would appear didn't speak a word of English, and this at 9am .
We were terrified and ran home and wern't allowed out the rest of the weekend .
I was told that they went into every crevice of the ground and had a royal battle with Jon Hoys boys , they kept throwing bottles everywhere in the north Bank and many were injured .
As a result Arsenal who where very friendly with Rangers Directors and in fact Rangers had a small share holding ,called the matches off at Highbury which had been annual events with the venues alternating. Rangers went on to cause havoc at other grounds too in the 60's n 70's .
On a positive note the Rangers link is why Arsenal were the ONLY club in Division 1 NOT to have fences .
Hillwood was at Ibrox in 66 and saw the crush and formed the opinion that in the case of emergencies the pitch is the safest place to be ............of course he was very right .
I think the last one was in 1967/8 pre-season so I was 9 at the time !
After that we have played them in Scotland a few times i one of them I went to early 80's was remarkable for one of the very few appearances in an Arsenal shirt of a striker who cost us a million quid ..........Clive Allen !
Just had a look mate you are right it was 67/68 but it was the only one at highbury
We played them in scotland in 66/67 and 68/69 but it would appear that game at highbury was a bridge too far for Anglo scottish games at in london
Alex ferguson was in the rangers side
We won 3-0 sammels scored twice and a chap named George Johnson got the other but this was 3 years before I started going so never had even heard of Johnson
The reports of bottle throwing and rangers taking the north bank seems to have galvanised arsenal fans into protecting the north bank in the future
Clive Allen did play 3 pre season friendlys for us
You must have been a rare sight at an away arsenal pre season friendly in those days
They barely made a footnote in the paper
Hard to believe they are viewed as make or break now
I did go up to Glasgow for the 2 friendlys at the beginning of the 03/04 season as I have an uncle living up there now a draw with celtic on the Saturday friendly atmosphere a win v rangers on the Tuesday night which was much more edgy and threatening
We had a decent following at both

Herd wrote:Sounds like your writing a book ,yes I remember it well first match of the season boiling hot day massive crowd but only announced as 50 odd thousand (mmmmm) .

People got in earlier for big matches and there was a lot of taunting going on , Some Cockney reds had got into the North bank and had been rebuffed from the back ,but went whilst soem walked round to the clock via the west stand ,some went down the front and then Arsenal started singing we'll fight you on the pitch ....... first 1 then 2 then 10 then 20 then about 3,000 MUFC came on to the pitch from the clockend which was heaving with utd whilst at the North Bank Arsenal surged forward only to discover the routed C.Reds at the front and a massive battle erupted .
Fair play to plod who managed to eject the reds onto the pitch from the North Bank then corral them back to the clock end but it took them some time .
There are some pictures of this day on the internet with some fans sitting on the roof of the north bank and some arsenal who looked more like the band sweet getting led away !
We won 3-0 and Geroge Graham scored from memory !

I think clive allen played for us at rangers, then up aberdeen which I missed ,and perhaps 1 more pre season match that I cant remember now !
The game where they tried to get at the north bank was at the beginning of the 73/74 season mate when we beat them 3-0 Kennedy radford and ball scored for us it was the season they went down George graham was playing for utd I had a season ticket n the east lower by then it was an absolute scorcher
I think the game you are talking about when graham scored was the 4-0 in 1970/71 1st home game of the season and ALS o my 1st ever game I was in the clockend radford got hat trick alex stepney got injured and david Sadler went in goal that was when graham scored with a looping header we went on to score 3 against utd the next 7 games at highbury
Clive Allen played in 2 defeats to rangers and Aberdeen then the opening game of a pre season tournament in Belgrade that we lost 2-1 to vasco de gama .he didn't play in the 3rd and 4th match that we lost to partizan on penaltys
He left 2 days before the start of the season

Well I knew I remembered graham for a reason I'd forgotten he moved then , memory fades but not the events, as it was pretty scary for a 15 year old and the sight of 10,000 thousand mullets mufc with the uniform Dr Marten boots, Wide baggy skinner jeans, and stupid tartan scarves storming the pitch was enough to scare even the brave !

As for Glasgow I've been to a couple of matches with Celtic and we've had a great time however relations with Rangers aren't so cordial after they got bashed up with their C18 pals from Chelsea and Birmingham outside before the Nigel Winterburn testimonial.

Think the bottle throwing started as an Arsenal guy threw a lone bottle at the Rangers fans in the North Bank, not a good move..........

This was followed by an imediate reply of bottles from the Rangers hitting the top of the Northbank shattering and raining down on fans below.....think there were some casualties.

On a footnote Ibrox, Goodison Park and Highbury was it all had same ground design?

If there was 10 games left instead of 6 think we could have a chance of catching them, they was lucky at QPR yesterday, but we ultimately pay dear for early results, when injury and very poor squad preparation/selection have left us again to say IF ONLY......

I reckon it's too late. I think they just need 12 points from 7 matches if we win our remaining 6(including one against them.

All the excitement will be around 2nd to 4th. "Who gets the most CL money?".

Do you remember a mob of guys from Bromley i think, one was a called Spider, used to be in the North bank in the 70s?
Always remember the young guys looking up to them, they were there holding everyone together, with shouts of Stand firm, Dont Run, after West Ham made repeated charges which were repelled.....they was a serious mob. Last time i saw one of them down there was the spurs game at Highbury same season that Sol Campbell defected, after they took serious libertys down at there place including bricking the Arsenal team coach.
