This, TBH in a way its ideal in that certain matches suit Gibbs, and the dour tough ones will maybe suit Nacho. Besides as we all know Gibbs is a liability injury wise. Both gibbs and Nacho made good goal line saves last season (Gibbs obviously the more vital but NAchos was good V Marseille too)
Similar is developping on the other side, with Bellerin and Debuchy. Then theres Chambers as well, its looking pretty good defender wise (Not necessarily DM), so long as no Orc assaults any of them again
Looking back maybe we were right to sell Sagna on, not exactly set Citeh on fire, but he has had a good pension plan
Playing him at centre back was a disaster, and could have broke him mentally
Wenger seems to specialise in this tactic
Big credit to the guy for putting in more solid performances now and hes worth his place

Yeah, I've been pleasantly surprised by Monreal.
He used to look very jittery but getting those games under his belt at centre back seem to have helped him settle down into a relatively tidy and steady player.
He's no world beater, but neither is left back the huge concern it once was.
I always thought it was much of a muchness whether he or Gibbs started. He's now streets ahead of Gibbs though and isn't a sick note like Gibbs either. Much improved.

Having a good left back instead of a decent one doesn't win you titles.
He has been putting in consistent performances and his improvement going forward and picking out a player rather than Gibbs' hit and hope cross has meant left back Is no longer a problem area for us right now.

Most improved player in the squad after Coq ?
for sure,i always say give a player a good run before making judgement,Nacho is proving his worth now
Agree with all of the above RE Nacho's improvement. My heart sinks if I see Gibbs and his glass body on the team sheet now tbh - still, that hardly ever happens! I also hold my hand up as one who thought he would not make it. Am delighted to be wrong on that count.
Nacho is our most improved player to my mind. He's far better than Gibbs in every aspect of the game now, with the exception of pace, but what fucking use is Gibbs' pace when he's constantly injured. And Nacho can cross a ball, something Gibbs is quite literally the worst player in the world at.
Nacho has earned that left back slot and should retain it on merit.
