It doesn"t matter if he falls flat on his face or not.It means we will have lost our best player this season for nothing and he will need replacing.dvbrisgooner1 wrote:I'm very much with Augie here. That is true, but by leaving he would be sending out the clear message that it is not Arsenal he cares about.

Like I said I think Flamini knows his worth and wants the recognition along with the money that a big contract would give him, which is hard to critisize I mean it's not as if we're his boyhood club and he has as has already been said done everything that has been asked of him by AW without any sign of ego normally associated with the prima donna attitude all too typical of today's professional footballer!
As far as Edu is concerned, he absolutely left of his own accord, while there was an offer on the table, he said it was too little too late and he had been treated shabbily by the club which of course may be debatable, but it was his choice in the end to go!

It's not so much a question of Flamini knowing his worth, it's more like he knows the strength of his bargaining position, just as he did when he extracted himself from Marseille to join us. He's playing hardball to get the best deal he can - the question is, will he understand that his long-term interests are probably best served by taking the best offer Arsenal make, even though that will be lower than he could make on a Bosman move? This is not like Sol's move to us from Spurs, which saw Sol winning both financially and football-wise, Flamini could be gambling with his future development as a footballer.Belfast Boy wrote:Like I said I think Flamini knows his worth and wants the recognition along with the money that a big contract would give him, which is hard to critisize
I still think he'll leave but the continued silence does suggest that something's going on.

ARSENAL are in a win / win here.
If FLAMINI stays , then we lcontinue with a decent hyper industrious midfielder who has formed a good partnership with Cesc..but
if he goes
he is 5 ft 9 and does not contribute as many goals as he could from his position
we could bring in a taller, faster, stronger, player on cheaper wages
Unlike some I am not crestfallen over the matter.

It looks like Flamini will go and money is very likely part of it. The worrying thing is that, if we can't keep am important player like Flamini because of wage demands, then how we expect to attract top quality replacements? If Gilberto and Hlebb go as well as some people are suggesting, then we will have serious problems in midfield. Either the board take the plunge and splash out, or the gap between us and Man Utd and Chelsea will grow.
No amount of talented young players can make up for the advantage in experience and consistency that Chelsea and Man Utd can boast. They manage to keep players for years - look at Giggs, Scholes, Ferdinand for example and Terry, Lampard and Cech who look set to carry on at Stamford Bridge for a long while yet. How many of the current Arsenal squad will still be there in a year or two? I wouldn't like to guess.

But we won't, will we?QuartzGooner wrote:ARSENAL are in a win / win here.

While I understand the point you're trying to make 26, it's hard to see any real downside in going to play for one of the truly great clubs in the world for 3M per year tax free, particularly when the reason they are pursuing you is genuine interest cos you blew them away in their own stadium and their current squad is well past it's sell by date and your competition for places will be minimal26may1989 wrote:It's not so much a question of Flamini knowing his worth, it's more like he knows the strength of his bargaining position, just as he did when he extracted himself from Marseille to join us. Is there a touch of bitterness coming from some on here? A lot of the statements about Flamini are harsh in the least.
Arsenal didn't make him, he did that all on his own this year. Hell if making a player is continually playing him out of position or benching him for endless games in a row then we should see a good few players break out like flams did in the next year or two isn't it?
Maybe just maybe Flamini has been with us for a good while now, realised earlier on this year that AW was stock piling midfielders and decided a long while back he wanted to move on elsewhere. So he played himself into a position where he has the pick of his future. Who on here wouldn't like that luxury? Jesus it's not like he's Diarra and jumping ship after 6 months with no action is he? The man has been with us for a good few years and done everything and more asked of him.
I will have no ill feeling to the guy if he moves on and will follow his future closely as this year he has really done a lot for me to consider him one of our top players, if he does stay I'd nail him on for Captain next year.

Depends on how it turns out doesn't it: if Flamini's Bosman goes as well as Sol's did, he'll be laughing, but if he ends up like Edu did, not getting a game for a team that's now battling against relegation, the decision would look a poor one, even if well paid.Belfast Boy wrote:While I understand the point you're trying to make 26, it's hard to see any real downside in going to play for one of the truly great clubs in the world for 3M per year tax free, particularly when the reason they are pursuing you is genuine interest cos you blew them away in their own stadium and their current squad is well past it's sell by date and your competition for places will be minimal
