Re: The most ridiculous Wenger capitulation/stupidity.
Deciding to switch from a solid successful 442 with natural width pace and strength in the counter attack, to a rediculous 433 with no balance nobody to cover the full backs who continue to bomb on regardless who are unable to make simple passes first time which was meant to bring out the best in ces who fecked off anyway.....it worked once, ONCE
against Everton opening day of the season and won 6-1 and let's not forget an Everton team where every Tom dick and Harry wanting to leave like lesscott.....since then the refusal to revert has been the biggest hindering

Re: The most ridiculous Wenger capitulation/stupidity.
You left out Birmingham 2008.When Clichy didnt put the ball in row z

Re: The most ridiculous Wenger capitulation/stupidity.
When you think you've seen it all with Arsenal, they somehow do something even worse. The 4-4 with Newcastle was a watershed but since then you've had Birmingham in the LC final, Dirk Kuyt's penalty in the 12th minute of injury time, the 8-2 at OT, the 6-3 at the Etihad, 5-1 at Anfield, 6-0 at Chelsea, 3-0 at Everton, losing 2-1 to Man Utd at the Emirates despite Man Utd only having 2 shots on target, the first-half collapse against Stoke, the 3-3 v Anderlecht, the 3-1 v Monaco and the Olympiakos debacle. Nothing with Arsenal surprises me.
Re: The most ridiculous Wenger capitulation/stupidity.
Wenger has always had money to spend. Problem is he has either pissed it up the wall on the likes of Diaby, Bendtner etc, or refused to spend it like the cowardly imposter he is. He has £200 million made available to him by Kronke and the board that he refuses to use to strengthen and we still have BFG, a green Coqelin and Walcot/Giroud as first choices.DB10GOONER wrote:Constantly extending Diaby's contract with pay rises long long after he had met all of the medical requirements to be technically classified as a member of the living dead. That fucking has to be in there.
This is why I dont get a lot of the criticism Kronke and Gazidis get. Football wise, in terms of fulfilling our massive potential our problem is Wenger, and Wenger alone.

Re: The most ridiculous Wenger capitulation/stupidity.
I think a few that people have probably forgot about because we ended up getting through are
1. 2 seasons ago in the Champs League group stage where we needed to avoid a 3 goal defeat in the final game against Napoli to get through and end up losing 2 nil and having a nervy finish to the game.
2. A few years before that again in the group stage when we had a group consisting of Braga, Shaktar and Partizan Belgrade. We won 6-0, 3-1 and 5-1 in the first 3 matches and needed a point to qualify only to then loose to Shaktar and Braga away turning the final game at home to partizan to a must win game.
3. Also in the Fa cup a few years back drawing leeds at home. Going 1 nil down. Arshavin and Bendtner missing chances and then scraping a draw with a cesc penalty. Then the following round drawing Huddersfield at home. Going down to 10 men and then scraping a win with a cesc penalty after a really poor performance. 2 games we should of won and made a lot of hard work for ourselves in. This was during the time we had very poor squad players such as squllaci (who was the man sent off v Huddersfield) Chamakh, Denilson, Arshavin was also on his decline around this time. Then in the next round Leyton Orient forcing us to a replay aswell after Almunia let a shot under his body for a 1-1 draw.
Also the 5-1 to Spurs in league cup semi when Adebayor and Bendtner had their fall out

Re: The most ridiculous Wenger capitulation/stupidity.
The Man Utd 8-2!!! 8 FUCKING 2! We may have been missing players but a defeat like that was unacceptable, and also a result of another summer of non activity in the transfer market (sound familiar?) Cue the mad trolley dash where at least half the money spent was a complete waste.
The warning signs had been there the back end of the season preceding it, where we were in an excellent position in all comps in February, and out of all of them by March. The Newcastle 4-4, Birmingham LC final, I think it was something like 3 wins out of the last 15 games.
Some items on that list ie the results coming from naive, terrible defending, could have been happened at any time over the last 6 or 7 years +.
What is worrying is what will happen next while Wenger remains. You can't even rule out drawing 5-5 from being 5-0 up or losing at home to Bristol Rovers in the cup with a full strength team, the horror yet to unfold!!

Re: The most ridiculous Wenger capitulation/stupidity.
Can we also add a 1-0 semi final defeat to Ipswich ducking Town when Cesc was accused of calling them a rugby t e am( coz they scored via a hopeful punt forward which our pathetic defence couldn't cope with)
We did eventually win the 2nd leg at home 3-0 but left it till well into the second half.
Drawing with Orient was pathetic.

This thread is a right bundle of laughs!
I'd probably vote c), then u), n) and t).
Seriously though, I think the most unforgiveable error is the persistence with Almunia. The 8-2, the 4-4 and the LC 2011 defeat are all shameful, but at least they were one-offs - i.e., it was a one-time only thing that nobody really saw coming. Yet, sticking with Almunia over 100 times was a recurring error that went on for years (much like Wenger's employment, really).
Glad that gp pointed out the Pires substitution too - that really was the worst of the worst. He was blatantly light-years ahead of Hleb, but because AW saw Hleb as the future, and Pires as the past - and didn't want to 'ruin Hleb's confidence', or win the cup with departing players - he made an abysmal decision. So sad for Robert as well. He turned down Real Madrid to stay with us, and AW treated him like absolute garbage in his final season. Disgusting, really.
I honestly don't know how or why this senile fuck is still in charge, but at least I can sleep soundly knowing that I haven't given the club a penny since 2012.

Absolutely, this decision changed the destiny of this club. To be also runs, not championsgp543 wrote:You missed one and it is undoubtedly the worst one, considering the stakes.
Taking off Bobby in Paris instead of Hleb.

Have to agree taking off Pires to keep the Circle Dribbler on was fucking criminal and disgraceful.VoiceOfReason wrote:This thread is a right bundle of laughs!

Have to agree about the Pires thing. That will bug me for the rest of my life. Also he took off Fabregas in that final when we were leading and not looking in trouble.
People often forget Wenger's mistakes from the Highbury era because it was before we saw him the way we do now.
Playing Alliadierre in the FACSF was another big mistake IMO that cost us not only that game but a possible treble.
