Re: Coquelin signed?
According to tomorrow s mirror coquelin coming off sat was tactical and he could be available for weds ,so we probably won't see him until Xmas.
Re: Coquelin signed?
I hope coq is not injured, but my god if taking him off was tactical...mcdowell42 wrote:According to tomorrow s mirror coquelin coming off sat was tactical and he could be available for weds ,so we probably won't see him until Xmas.
Re: Coquelin signed?
Now that coq is injured I wonder who will step up? Bielik? Calum?
I dont want to see Flamini in that cdm role at all. We deserve and need better
Peace

Re: Coquelin signed?
with all these injuries surely its time to recall Gnabry from his loan at ironically west brom?
Re: Coquelin signed?
Its all a cunning plan to see if we can field officially the slowest XI in Premier League history. We just need to rest Bellerin and Alexis now and put in Debuchy and Flamini instead, shoving Santi out wide and it will be mission complete !
Re: Coquelin signed?
Wenger still dividing the fans. Sad.
Its crazy. I was over the moon when we won the FA Cup 2014 but knew it would enable Wenger to sign his new bumper contract. I was right, he couldnt wait to announce he was staying. Did it on the pitch during the celebrations ffs.
Would I have given up that FA Cup if it meant Wenger not renewing? 100% yes.
So g88ner when you are finished polising your halo.
can you honestly say you'd rather we had that FA Cup and three more years of the same shit under Wenger or let the likes of Klopp or someone like Simeone, or anyone ffs take over and try something fresh without winning that cup?

I don't think Wenger would have left even if we'd lost the FA Cup final.
Plenty want him gone (including me) because he's had more than enough chances but I just don't think his ego would have allowed himself to walk away as a failure in 2014. He'd rather run us into the ground trying to prove everyone wrong.

So, on balance, I'd rather we won as I'm not convinced losing will force him out.
He'll go eventually mate

Re: Coquelin signed?
That's absolutely the truth. Does anyone think he would have walked away had we lost that? Really. I think his previous extension came after we lost to Birmingham FFS and collapsed like a deck of cards yet again.g88ner wrote:hey, I'm fond of my halo thank you very mucharmchair wrote: So g88ner when you are finished polising your halo.![]()

Still as John Cross would say "he deserves to decide himself when he'll go"

Re: Coquelin signed?
Got to agree with this and with markyp, in fact had it not been for the BFGimp equalising against Wigan then Wenger would have surely been toast but lucked totally out as we spawned through on penalties, even in the final he can thank Gibbs for heading off the line at 2 down. (it reminded me when England lucked all their way through to the World Cup semi-finals in 1990)armchair wrote:Wenger still dividing the fans. Sad.

Wenger must surely be one of the luckiest managers alive, when the screw starts to turn Lady Luck really does smile down at him. So if the weakening of our side through injuries shows him up for sitting on a mountain of transfer cash during last summer then sign me up for it!

Re: Coquelin signed?
I genuinely believe he wouldnt have renewed had we not won that cup. He waited and waited, was under pressure from fans and media to win a trophy and also to decide on his future. Left his decision right up until the final whistle at wembley and we had won. (He had previously said he would do it in January)

8 Mil a year (or whatever he is on, if it's less it's still far too much), no pressure, stubborn to a fault, a free hand to do anything he wants, do you really reckon he would have resigned from all that?armchair wrote:I genuinely believe he wouldnt have renewed had we not won that cup. Re: Coquelin signed?
I do mate. I think he was definitely feeling the pressure. He needed that cup. His ego needed that cup. With an ego that size how could he have renewed after another trophyless season? Thats why he left it to the very last minute, after we had actually, definitely won a trophy to announce he was staying. That cup, welcome as it was at the time is a poisoned chalice.franksav63 wrote:8 Mil a year (or whatever he is on, if it's less it's still far too much), no pressure, stubborn to a fault, a free hand to do anything he wants, do you really reckon he would have resigned from all that?armchair wrote:I genuinely believe he wouldnt have renewed had we not won that cup. Re: Coquelin signed?
Wish you were right Armchair but I think you underestimate just how much of a graceless, charmless, narcissistic a-hole this guy truly is. If you want further proof then just read that l'Equipe fashion shoot/interview. The guy slates Real Madrid for their sporting model FFS. This was published the day after getting tanked 5-1 at Bayern, and the most pathetic CL showing ever. Remember 8-2? Any big manager walks after that. How about losing 6-3 at Citeh, following that up with 5-1 at Anfield, followed up by 3-0 at Everton, followed by a 6-0 thrashing by Jose in your 1,000th game?!armchair wrote:I do mate. Any sign of him quitting then? Nope. It's always the ref, austerity, oil money, Simon Cowell or the fans who are ingrates. It's never him. Deep narcissistic despot who thinks you and me ought to worship the ground he walks on. Never forget his quite in that interview:
"I am a facilitator of all that is beautiful in man"
If you know of a single other elite manager that woulda done that fashion shoot and uttered that ludicrous interview - especially given years of failure...m
I believe that contract extension had already been agreed and signed in secret. Ages before the FA Cup final. He was just waiting for the perfect opportunity to beat a rubbish team to announce it. Hull, (relegated that year) duly obliged.

Re: Coquelin signed?
Wenger would never ever have walked away - he will never quit if he feels that there is the slightest chance of it being interpreted as him quitting because he feels he has done as much as he can.
With regards to Coquelin, it's a farce that he was catapulted straight into an unchallenged pivotal role in the side after a few good games last year. His performances earned him the right to fight for a place in the side, but it should have been with a more experienced proven player in that position - although who wants genuine strength in depth, competition for places and tactical versatility? Might as well just have our whole shape hinge on one player who was knocking around at a League One side this time last year. He's an inexperienced kid, at best he is going to make mistakes.

I understand that thought process but the problem with it is that if he wouldn't walk away a loser, and he didn't walk away when he was a winner, then when or how is he ever going to walk away ???
Personally I think that a defeat at the hands of hull or wigan would have done it for le cock - yes he was allowed to escape virtually unscathed after the hammerings against manure/chavs/Bayern etc, but to lose a high profile cup game against mediocre shite would have been a bridge too far imo and he would have been forced out
