No one knows what Arteta is like as a manager.
And that really is the big problem.

I cant believe that some fans are making that statement as a reason to support arteta's appointment    :banghead:
It's sticking plaster psychology, a bit like the 'careful what you wish for' analogy, it's people too terrified of real change looking for something they can cling too as a crutch, just remember who brought him to the Arsenal in the first place and it all becomes clear
Well I would rather the unknown (Arteta) than sticking with Wenger. That's the way I rationalize it to give myself some piece of mind.

Never did I say Arteta was my choice. But if it's him or Wenger, then him all day long.

But is shouldnt be one or the other - there are a multitude of managers out there that would be a massive upgrade on arteta, and they are who we should be appointing. Allowing the board to believe that getting shot of the french c.unt should allow them to appoint whoever they fcuking want cos the fans will be happy regardless, is a massive, massive mistake and they should get it with both barrels if/when they appoint arteta.

He's 7/2 with Skybet & Paddy Power

Arteta still the favourite at 1/6 with Skybet and Paddy Power

Valid point, but it's the Europa League. A watered down version of the CL.

Anyway, it would be a shock at this point if Arteta isn't appointed. It seems as though it's just a matter of time before he's announced.

Talk in the meeja of him already picking his backroom staff with Xabi Alonso becoming his assistant.

Also talk of him being responsible for the clearing out of Wenger's staff, with him personally asking for Colin Lewin to be sacked.

The positive I'm taking from all of this is that if Arteta bombs, it should be the catalyst for the fans to truly put the pressure on Kroenke and the board, and finally oust the useless c.unts. Gazidis will have to carry the can as well, after all it was his call to appoint a bloke with fuck all managerial experience.

I would be desperate to see Arteta succeed however, not only because I want us to do well, but also the fact that Wenger would be shown up by a novice.

Will that rationale still stand if he turns out to be a Wenger disciple or even worse?

If he turns out to be another Wenger then all the effort put in by those who worked hard to remove Wenger has been a waste of time and we are back to square one again, it is one of my major issues with Arteta, he is an unknown variable and although he could turn out to be great after his time with Pep he could just as easily be a Wenger clone, baring in mind that he started his coaching training under Wengers tutelage initially whilst still a player for us.

Nailed it...basically speaking for all of us. Winter, one of the few journo's to see through the BS that was Arsene Wenger.

My thoughts before reading this was if it was a choice between Viera & Arteta I would go for Viera every day of the week. He commands more respect just by his presence and playing history and would undoubtedly install some much needed defensive steel & discipline in this flaky team.

Arteta will only be a glorified coach ,Gazidis and his flunkies will decide who we buy or sell !
His job will be to coach ,drill and inspire what he is given !
But now there is a clear line drawn.
If the tactics are sh*t blame Arteta (or whoever the manager is), if the players are sh*t Gazidis has nowhere to hide.
He doesn't want to hide Nick ,you dont seem to grasp that Ivan wants his day in the sun

I also agree 100%

On a sentimentality level I would love to see the return of PV4, but I also totally believe that he would bring organisation and passion to a team devoid of both. He has a big physical presence about him, plus he is a manager that would command respect having played for juve and inter milan as well as winning the world cup and euro's with france, and of course playing a significant part in our successes in the early wenger era.

There were a lot who totally opposed the notion of giving the job to Vieira based on his lack of experience in top flight management, and I'm wondering how those fans feel now that we are on the pop of giving it to arteta

For a guy that says that arteta isnt your preferred choice, you sure as shit are putting up a big argument for him to get it

I mean seriously, surely appointing a manager that has won some trophies is preferable to appointing arteta who has never even managed ?
