We sure like pissing Villa off with late bids. Pretty sure we did something similar with Douglas Luis a few seasons ago.
Not keen on Watkins, he’s not elite and fluffs a lot of chances. He would’ve been murdered here if he’d failed to convert those glaring opportunities when we beat them 2-0 at their place.
Let’s hope this is not part of some preemptive ploy to suppress discontent if we don’t sign anyone. The look we tried excuse is not going to wash for even the most die hard Artetasexuals

My eldest lad is saying that is exactly what this is about but I am dismissing that because I think not getting a striker will be viewed as totally unacceptable to the fans, and bidding for messi, salah, watkins or whoever wont mean shit if we dont bring one of them in
If anything it reveals the lack of a coherent transfer strategy. Chances of bringing anyone in diminishes everyday with the window shutting in 5days and the club continuing to pursue unrealistic targets. We need at least 2 attackers but on I doubt we’d even bring 1 on current evidence.
Viewed as totally unacceptable by our fans??

I don't think so, we have been here so many times before, fans have almost come to expect this. We have known for months that we need a striker......it's the 30th and here we are, running around desperately banging on doors, throwing out lines here there and everywhere, hoping to hook somebody. Anybody!!

Remember that insane trolley dash when we bought Mertersacker and 2 others?? This reminds me of that. And Ozil, arrived about 5 minutes before the deadline.

This reminds me of Pure TOF ' Well errrr! We tried to sign so and so and such and such" :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah: :banghead:

As I suggested last night, rather than appease frustrated fans, this late move for watkins is more likely to infuriate the fans more - duran has been linked with a move for weeks, and every dope in the world knows that villa will not sell both their strikers, so why did we leave it until the duran deal was almost completed to make our move ? We have shit our load on a striker that def wont be sold IF duran leaves - beyond comprehension really :? Yesterday evening I did get a small bit of a lift by the fact that we were trying to buy a proper number 9 (as opposed to a false 9 or a guy that can play anywhere across the front line), but after every high comes a low and today I feel totally deflated by the whole thing. If we were using watkins to go after duran I could understand, but there hasnt been a whisper of any interest in duran either, so what the fcuk are we doing ?? Putting in a second bid for watkins IF duran leaves will be as embarrassing as the +£1 bid for suarez, cos even if watkins agitates for the move villa wont sell

I know at 9pm,but I'm presuming finalising the deal merely means he will do all the media stuff a new signing does ,which means once they've registered him b4 9pm and the above is in place/done ,then he'll go there fri

21 years of age and off to Saudi to play in front of 100 people in a farmers league, absolutely pathetic but more and more of them are showing their true colours that money is their sole motivation for being in the game. He'll make 200 million out there and best of luck to him but he's signing away his career with that contact.

I cant agree with you there rodders - if another premier league club came in for him and he chose to go to saudi then yes I would agree with you cos it is far from a top league. However the reality seems to be that he is pissed off being back up to watkins and wants to play and at 21 years of age I think he should feel that way. Should he be happy to stay as back up for next few seasons ? Ar 21 years of age his development will stall if he isnt getting enough playing time, and I made the same point about smith-rowe, and I am making the same point about Nwanieri now too. Comparing him to oscar when he went to china is like comparing apples to oranges in my book - oscar was a regular starter for the chavs and clearly went for the money, but duran is not the same - honestly at £64m plus bonuses I cannot understand how clubs like ours havent gone in for him, and then we could test where his focus lies

You’d have to think there was at least one other club in for him other than the Saudi’s Augie? You’ve a complete blind spot when it comes to players who want to go to Saudi. First team football my hole, he’s gone there for the money and nothing else. If he had any interest in his career he wouldn’t dream of going there, no self respecting pro would. He could score a thousand goals a season out there and nobody would give a shit, he’s tanked his career for a bus load of cash.

Same with Osimhen, got a hard on for - shit load of Saudi blood money but got gazumped by Ivan Toney (another fucking waster) so he’s had to piss away a year of his career in Turkey.

Fuck those zero motivation, money hungry c.unts.

Revealed: Arsenal's opening offer for Ollie Watkins was closer to £45m than £60m as they weigh up second bid. Villa still adamant they don't want to sell him with Duran heading to Saudi #avfc #afc

I'm not talking about another club coming in for him, I'm talking about another club agreeing a fee for him with villa - then and only then can clubs discuss contracts and force a player to make a choice. Unless AFC or some other club makes a bid for him that would be acceptable to villa, then we can never say that he chose the money because the only choice in front of him RIGHT NOW is to stay at villa or go to saudi.
I dont have a blind spot for players going to saudi and agree that it is a complete travesty to have any player under 30 go their when they should be playing in one of the world's top leagues. My argument continues to be though that when players only have one club agree a fee for them, then they either stay where they are or go to saudi
