Cesc Fabregas - The Most Overrated Player In The Prem?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Show some fucking respect to a man who has consistently given 100% every game for the last 5 years.
This was exactly my thought, what he must be thinking today is anybody guess...!!!

I have tremendous respect for him, and he is still young, but bloody long is he going to stay on. he IS one of only 2/3 first class players in our current team.

At the risk of looking like someone who thinks for himself ;) , I'd like to agree with the OP. Fab is a great natural talent, but for me he hasn't been doing it week in, week out for most of the last couple of seasons. He's had patches of good form, but for much of the time he looks drained. For every killer pass, there are many attempts going astray.

Yes, I know he's young, but you're getting picked for Arsenal, you're going to be judged by what you do on the pitch, not how old you are.

I'm not saying he's crap per se, just saying that he's overrated in terms of not consistently producing his best week in, week out. Now I think about that, I feel a new thread coming on...

I think it's hypocritical that some players can play poorly and have it excused as it's "because of the crap players around them", yet some players play poorly and they are just seen as crap. It's like the players who are "favourites" have excuses made for them as people would rather not admit that the player's form is inconsistent.

I believe Cesc best for us was in 2007/08 season. He was partnered with flamini and could rely on him to do all the donkey work while he concentrated on the play making side, but after flamini leaving he has to contend with average squad players at best in Denilson, diarby and song so having at times to do 2 jobs or being forced into the defensive role for which he's not use to.

Please don't get me wrong i think he's a excellent player but he hasn't produced the same form of that season consistently since and i believe that's partly due to who he has top play with.. ..not like that!!.
Get a good defensive experienced midfielder in and we see Cesc return to the form we want him to produce BUT as present i think he probably thinking of Barca in the summer(i don't blame him  on our current form)

11 games - 6 goals - 10 assists???

Unless we're rating him as the second coming I don't see how you can overrate him??!!

We lost to Chelsea ergo Cesc is overratted??!!

Maybe he was at fault for the 3 goals??? Oh no that was Sagna getting skinned twice by that crunt combined with a stupid foul and poor goalkeeping/good free kick so not that then

Anyone care to enlighten me?!!

Maybe Cesc should have completely dominated Essien, Mikel and Lampard on his own whilst covering the left back position and playing an inch perfect rocket of a pass through to Eduardo that first knocked out him out of Terry's pocket before landing perfectly in front of him on a plate??

I think for much of this season he's looking like he's returned to better form, nonetheless I maintain that he isn't consistent enough to deserve his exalted Jesus-like status. He's another one in our long list of "players who are capable of great things but not week-in week-out".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cesc_Fàbregas#Club_career_statistics is enlightening, usually under 5 goals / season in all competitions, only more than 10 once (and yes he's about to break through that this year, even with that "muppet", "donkey" etc that some people call Song beside him  ).

cesc has been as regular this season as dennis bergkamp and thierry henry ever were for arsenal.

they, like cesc, destroyed two or three games then did little in one or two.

the difference is, the games that they did little, there were bobby, freddie, sylvain, paddy and co. to do the damage.

Anyone who dislikes C'esc at our club, or who thinks he is even slightly overrated please do f**k right off as you are talking out of your arse, and probably never even kicked a ball in your life, because if you think he is even slightly overrated you have no opinion of football that is worth listening to. I know football is about opinions, but talking s**t is not an opinion!!! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

The only way you can really judge how over/under/correctly rated Cesc is would be for him to be out of the side for a long period, which he was at the end of last season. While we coped without him, I would say that we failed to play football to the same standard as we do when he's in the side. I believe there were at least 4/5 0-0 draws in that period as well, suggesting he is vital to our attacking play, and as such would possibly look better on the pitch with someone doing the dirty work a la flamini.

I think that the media/fans are justified in building him up as he is a class player, and in the case of the fans if we look beyond him who else do we have to rely on? RVP and Arshavin are our other two world class players, ones injured and the other is workshy and has been all season. (I think Russia going out provided a good excuse for Wenger to justify a dip in form.)
