It's been one of those rare seasons where nearly everyone's beaten everyone and whilst we haven't always taken advantage of the opportunities presented to us we still managed to pick up points to be within touching distance of the top.
Chavs are finally starting to show their age, they're struggling to pick up points and the departure of Ray Wilkins has definitely hurt them.
Citeh whilst being belligerent are squabbling amongst themselves, but are definitely giving the rest of the challengers serious food for thought. Wednesday's game will be another serious test of our title credentials but I reckon we have enough to see them off.
Spuds are bringing up the rear (what else would you expect..?) and waiting to expose any slip ups the others make, and it is that which makes them also dangerous foes as they are constantly laying down markers that they are aiming for top 4 again.
Then there's ManU. Not been at their best yet they haven't lost a game. Somehow they're getting the rub of the green and making good on Lady luck's charms. I expect them to lose at some point, but when is anyone's guess. The way the season has panned out thus far it could just as easily be Spammers as Chavs where they lose to. We've just got to be ready to pounce when they do.
Inspite of or despite the lack of big money investment in the squad we've done pretty well to be where we are. By rights we shouldn't. Not with the way we scrape the bottom of the barrel scratching around for substandard French 'internationals' centre halves and Championship quality French defenders.
Couple that with our inability to organise ourselves and communicate defensively (Wenger's words, not mine), a midfield who sometimes seem hellbent on neglecting their defensive duties and no Plan B, it is no mean feat that we are right up there. And all this without Vemaelen, and until recently goalkeepers who didn't inspire much confidence.
If we can somehow get through this month without too much fuss, get TV back and partner him with the fast improving Djorou, navigate our way through vital fixtures against the big boys (and Spuds) and don't drop many points against the smaller clubs then I think we'll see the confidence really course through the squad.
There are many bumps and turns yet and it's making for an exciting season.
I think we have as good a chance as any to be in there at the death, and who knows maybe snatch an improbable title.
Bring it on!
