Yeah but Ben it has not acquired a footbaling context in a social vacuum.

It only has a footballing context because of the racial make up of the area until about 30 years ago.

It would be like the word 'paki' attaining a footballing context today with regards to West Ham because of who lives in Upton Park

cus, fair enough, i only said it was my opinion so we will have to agree to disagree

for me this issue is a one-off thing and not really comparable - however, language evolves and words gain different meanings over time - gay used to mean happy, now some people find it offensive (and yes i know thats not a racial term) anyway im out and sorry to people whove had this subject done to death in the past, im an on/off reader of the forum

Well the word 'gay' isn't deemed offensive by it's subject group - it's what homosexuals generally prefer to be called by hetrosexuals.

Jewish people generally don't prefer to be called '****' by non-Jews.

And I think it is fair to say that the word has only changed it's meaning within English football circles, outside of this the word still means a term of offence.

ok fine then Cus- a better example of how language changed over time is the word faggot which used to refer to a bundle of wood used for burning people at the stake but is now used as an insulting word for homosexual people

Interesting example because the homosexual context was derived from exactly the same context you mentioned. From the gruesome medievel times when mobs burned homosexuals at the stake.

Yes but Ben not everybody is a follower of premiership football and not everyone has their life experience molded around premiership football, so the word '****' is still going to be as offensive as it always was.

And as I've pointed it only got its footballing context from its racist one

Seriously, a joke about a historical genocide of a people is never acceptable. Use your brain next time, think how something could be construed (like say, supporting a horrible genocide), who it could hurt and then think if you really have to say it.

Not that I intended to. But is not officially a banned word and I see no problem in using it evey now and then.

It is from the fanzine and articles posted, just the moderators do not have the time to do it on the forum.
