In hindsight not such a good idea in terms of fan travel and atmosphere.
But at least we tried playing there for two seasons in the Champions League to see what it was like before deciding.
He was also proved right that the stadium move would take funds away from the transfer kitty.
I was and still am in favour of the stadium move for the long term, but can see his view made sense in the immediate and mid term.
it was going rogue and trying to sell the club behind the back of the board

1. Employ Wenger for life, allowing him to continue making maximum profits for me!
2. Buy a new house, car and go on a long holiday around the world with a well equipped harem.
3. Employ a hitman to go through the "The 'What Utter KUNTS!' Thread", making sure that Babatunde is the first one shot

The yawn part. It's as if every thread is beneath him apart from his own. I like his point of view, but there's no need to treat others as if they shouldn't post.highburyJD wrote:Hate to defend Babs...

HighburyJD, this might be a stupid question, but how the fcuk can you sell the club behind someone's back ? Fizsman was the main shareholder so how could DD sell his shares without him knowing ?
The fact is that DD got shafted for trying to bring the yank onto the board by getting him to invest in the club in the first place and yes that is the very same yank that phw and all the c**ts on the board at that time objected to and didnt want in their club - funny how quick things changed when he waved a few million under their noses wasnt it ?

1.) Not read Conn's book. So please elaborate or wait for me to read it.highburyJD wrote:detailed chapter about Dein in David Conn's book (the beautiful game? or something like that)QuartzGooner wrote:Can you prove David Dein was a failed businessman?

2.) No such thing as co-incidence. Dein's departure coincided with Wenger's pushing of the youth project to the extent that it obscured the glaring need for senior players too.
I believe Dein would have not tip toed around Wenger without pulling him up on his failings, as other board members have during this decline.
3.) For a board member to attend all first team games and many reserve games is a lot more than the current board do. Shows an interest in football not just money.
4.) The Wembley scheme showed an awareness of how it would impact on cashflow and player quality...not bad for a "failed businesman".
5.) As for Dein's departure, it remains speculation but the commonly believed scenario portrays Dein as a villain going behind the board's back to encourage either investment by or a hostile takeover by Kroenke.
Not ethical, IF true.
But also shows a burning desire for Arsenal's football success.

so it was my wedding that ruined us...?!QuartzGooner wrote:No such thing as co-incidence
hmmm divorce is pretty expensive isn't it...
Conn book:

I think Dein wanted Arsenal success but he very much wanted it to bee seen as his success
Re: The first 3 things you'd do if you ran the Club..
Yes, I seem to recall that we didn't need his money and we "don't want his sort". Quite happy to be Chairman for him now he's majority shareholder though. Say what you like about Dein, but PHW is an embarrassment and a total fucking hypocriteaugie wrote:HighburyJD, this might be a stupid question, but how the fcuk can you sell the club behind someone's back ? On account of his vice-chairmanship co-inciding with our best success since the 1930's?highburyJD wrote:

I will read Conn's book to see what your gripe with Dein is based on.

It's more that I cannot believe we are still having copy-paste discussions 7 years on! This club is the personification of Groundhog day, it's a recurring nightmare where stuff all changes. It's more my complete boredom with the sorry state and lack of ambition of the club than anyone here really....
