You're turning this into another anti-Wenger thread?franksav63 wrote: and how many more players than just Brady came through our youth academy then? Alot more than Wenger has ever produced!
FFS, it's another world, Frank!
Back when Brady came through, English football was pretty much British players only, with a sprinkling of the odd foreigner... under those conditions, I'm not surprised our academy churned out more players.
The level has risen to the point we're at now, where hardly any British players developed at the top clubs are key players, so we're hardly alone. Most key players for Arsenal, chavs, Liverpool, Citeh, Sp*rs, etc. are signed.
There's many things to moan at Wenger for, but pointing your finger at him for not producing the same number of players as back in the 70s seems ridiculous to me.

I have to agree here g88ner...... and I am as anti Wenger as they come. But your right the face of footie has changed immeasurably since the 70's, and however much I would like to lay the blame at Wenger's door I think he escapes this one.g88ner wrote:You're turning this into another anti-Wenger thread?franksav63 wrote: and how many more players than just Brady came through our youth academy then? How the fuck am I? It started turning (look at page 7) long before I got into the argument, so look back and see for yourself before you start pontificating and it was Beck who brought up Brady first... FFS!!!!

Sorry Frank if I misunderstood your post mate, but I've re-read your comment and can't see what else you could have meant? - whether you started it or not is neither here nor there, if I've misunderstood what you wrote, what point were you trying to make then?franksav63 wrote:g88ner wrote:You're turning this into another anti-Wenger thread?franksav63 wrote: and how many more players than just Brady came through our youth academy then? Beck mentioned Brady first, I was replying to him, he was somehow trying to defend, IMO, Wenger's very poor youth record by mentioning Brady coming through some 30 years beforehand, I was merely pointing out that even then we brought more players through back then, I know it's a different era, but if he hadn't mentioned Brady I wouldn't have even referenced it!g88ner wrote:Sorry Frank if I misunderstood your post mate, but I've re-read your comment and can't see what else you could have meant? - whether you started it or not is neither here nor there, if I've misunderstood what you wrote, what point were you trying to make then?franksav63 wrote:g88ner wrote:You're turning this into another anti-Wenger thread?franksav63 wrote: and how many more players than just Brady came through our youth academy then? Re: Coquelin/Frimpong/Yennaris and Youths, Angha/Crowley
Had this argument with my bro yesterday, he thinks Frimpong is useless
I think he could turn out to be a Flamster type figure for us
can't see us buying more than one DM
if Tets and/or the new signing gets a long term injury we're a suspension away from third choice
LeCoq is off on loan, we need Frimpong as a cup player/backup

Re: Coquelin/Frimpong/Yennaris and Youths, Angha/Crowley
Frimpong is in his last season on his old contract and will leave deffo, perhaps even soon, permanent unless the club offer new improved terms, but if he can't play then he can't prove himself so same old problem.
He was offered a new contract last season at the time the group of 5 all signed , but it was only on the same wages as previous contract. Perhaps worth more overall but with injuries etc can understand clubs caution.... for a change !
He turned it down and wanted to go on loan to prove himself , get game time and earn a better contract but ending up at fulham did him no good.
He,like a lot of the kids, although yes money driven also want to play football every week and is resigned to the fact that it is not going to happen now, partly him , partly bad luck with injuries.A season long loan in championship is his only hope and staying injury free but if he can find the right club and deal he will be off

Don't think he can turn his nose up at getting a new deal on the same money!
He's been unfortunate with injuries but unfortunately just isn't going to be able to show he can cut it. My mate is a Wolves fan and he was raving about him before he got crocked (although to be fair he also used to rate Karl Henry so 'nuff said). Agreed that what he needs is a season-long loan at a Championship side or a struggling PL side where he'll start every week, if there are any. It's probably a year or two too late for that in terms of his Arsenal career but it's what'll serve him best personally.

if we let Frimpong go as well as leCoq we look very light at DM
who can play there: Tets, Rambo then what? Yennaris... Vermaelen?
