I don't/won't defend racists of any kind but can't help feeling that there's more to this story that meets the eye - tan strikes me as a shifty little bastard and I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him so I do wonder about the AMOUNT of stuff being reported in this story. Is it possible that somewhere in the midst of that many emails and texts messages some of us would send something stupid like that ? If so does that make us or him a proper racist or somebody who said something trying to be funny but instead came out looking like a racist cock ? It would also concern me how they obtained this info - if you obtain a warrant then that is something that is specific to a particular accusation and being a racist/homophobe arsehole was not what he was accused of so is it even legal to act on illegally obtained material (if only we had a lawyer on here that could help us out on this question :rubchin:   )

Couple of ill advised texts that have bitten him on the arse, end of.
It is not just two texts though is it, it is loads of them and emails and as others have said, it is the way that the stuff was written and what is actually said that rankles.

Anyone can make the odd comment, but these comments reek of a deep arrogance.
And bigotry, not just a feeble attempt at a "joke" etc.
Obviously the Jewish stuff annoys me but the stuff about Black players?
Where has Mackay been for the last 20 years, under a rock?

Initially I felt MacKay had been very hard done by when sacked, but in retrospect there had to be more to being sacked than overspending on transfers, it was not as if he spent £100M or something ridiculous.

As others have said, if you are going to tussle with a billionaire be sure what you are getting into, they did not get that billion by being dumb.

But do we know at this stage how many of the offensive texts and emails were sent by him, and how many were sent by his buddy ? Last I heard it is suggesting that the investigation covered emails and texts sent by both and not specifically by McKay alone - not using that as a way to defend him but his predicament would be far worse if he was the only one sending this crap

I hope for his sake that he is racist and that these texts were not a joke - the guy is finished in the pro game imo, so it would be fair enough to be expelled for being a racist c*nt but to be frozen out for being a stupid bastard trying to be funny! would be a shame

Nope, it was purely down to Tan thinking Mackay had been profligate with the transfer budget he was given. He was telling anyone who would listen that was the reason at the time and long after. Anyone who is subsequently thinking that this latest issue was the real reason he was sacked are ignoring the fact that if that was true, Tan would have used it as the excuse for sacking Mackay at the time and probably avoided all the bad publicity he and the club received. No, as augie suggested and I hinted at earlier, this is just a case of a nasty piece of work chairman getting his additional pound of flesh for the shit he went through with both Mackay and the other bloke that went to Palace and apparently used inside info against Cardiff.

Reports tonight saying that McKay only sent 3 of the disgraceful texts  Like I said earlier, the quantity doesn't excuse what he has done but it does paint a much different picture than the initial reports which suggested that he had sent loads of racist texts

Reported on TV & Radio and in other newspapers this morning that the mail has evidence of 'many more such texts'...

In his last spoken interview he said there were Only Three...so either way if there are more he's well and truly f*cked.

Agree with others on here, its a load of PC Bol**ks along with angst from very rich people as well as rivalry between Palace and Cardiff City, allied with the Media- a filthy load of rot that will sell lots of newspapers who glory in the discomfort of people without whom the media would in all liklihood be finished anyway...

The person who should be in trouble is the lousy git who leaked it all in the first place. If Mackay had come out and said it in a TV interview well obviously he is a racist biggotted twat whos out as fast as he would disserve, but seems to me at least that Mackay is unlikely to be bogotted, and thus its as big a storm in a teacup as Andy greygate was...

The thought police will be the next in this sort of saga

Even if it comes out that he only sent a few, the die has been cast. He's not just offended one particular group, he's done the whole lot! All of this would be raked up as soon as he got so much of a sniff of another job. He'll be lucky to get another job in this country.

I don't buy it.
Had to be more to it, the overspend was minimal for a man of Tan's wealth and it is not as if Mackay spent first, then went to Tan with a receipt, the payments had to be authorised by higher up the chain than MacKay and so did the ins and outs of the contracts and bonus payments.
Even at the time there was talk of "Personal differences" between Tan and MacKay, and McKay was doing a good job for a club of Cardiff's size.
It can only be my theory as I do not know Tan or MacKay, but whilst these emails and texts have only emerged subsequently, I reckon Tan had heard various things about Mackay and generally wanted him got rid of.

As for the comments Theoperator, if someone made them here they'd get a ban.

You don't have to 'buy it'. Just look at the evidence including quotes from Tan back in December telling Mackay he wouldn't be getting anything to spend in the Jan transfer window because he was £15m over budget from the summer one and that some of the new players hadn't even been given a proper chance / weren't up to it!! His reaction then proved money obviously is very important to him, even if he is a multi millionaire.

If you seriously think Tan knew something about Mackay's alleged racist nature way back then but didn't act and thus voluntarily put himself up to be portrayed as the bad guy by the press and other football folk, when he could easily have avoided all that and instead had their sympathy/understanding then you give Tan more credit than he deserves.

quite rightly so Quartz, but thats my point, they were NOT made in public and were quite probably taken out of context in private. Agreed he was mad not to think that even private banter would get out. I maintain that the bad one was as much the person who leaked them. Private thoughts and comments are private, and shame for him that a so called mate has leaked them. We just dont know the context etc of what went on to be able without doubt to pass judgement on the man.

Im not sure that theres any evidence in public of Mackay being bigoted is there :?
