Count me in, too. Great article.

I couldn't agree more about the current nostalgia for George Graham, which is just laughable. The last 3 years under GG saw the worst football ever played in my 40 years of watching Arsenal - the team consisted of the back 5 plus Ian Wright with a random assortment ...

Well said that man. Anyone who wanted him out during the season was just an idiot but many of us including myself wanted to see where we are at the end of the season before passing judgement. There's still 6 weeks to go so I'll hold my counsel until then but as Donalso says there has to be more ...

Interesting and unusually balanced and articulate discussion (well, for the Gooner Forum anyway!).

A couple of points:

1. There is a species of modern football fan who seems to think that great strikers never miss. I think this comes from modern saturation tv/youtube coverage where you can't move ...

Well said.

I think it's time that Manuel got some serious praise. For me he is our most improved and consistent player this season.

Prior to this year I always thought he was a decent keeper but never saw him make a real game-changing save.

This season, though, he's made loads of them as well as ...

Mike,

Fair point - stats are never going to tell the whole story.

The point I was trying to make was about the lazy thinking that dictates, once someone is labelled (Torres = genius, Bendtner = rubbish), people tend to stick with those labels whatever happens.

I would never say that Bendtner is ...

Bendtner

Here's a fact for all those who persist in knocking Bendtner:

Fernando Torres (you know, that bloke that everyone says is one of the best strikers in the world) has scored 11 goals this season (all competitions).

Nicklas Bendtner (you know, the one that Arsenal fans boo) has scored 12 goals this ...

"If the team can finish 21 points off the champions playing such poor football, imagine what they would be capable of if they got some confidence and put a run together."

I must be watching a different team to everyone else on this increasingly miserable and negative site.

I saw a young team play ...

Woody,

Mostly agree with what you say. Trouble is, it's almost impossible for these debates not to turn into "who's the best Gooner".

Lines have to be drawn somewhere when demand exceeds supply.

A few points:

1. As a Red Member only (long story, been following the Arse for 40 years, moved out ...

Norrie,

This is a well-written piece and you make a number of very valid points, one or two of which are worth further discussion.

1. The point about George Graham laying the foundations for Mr Wenger is very fair and you could be right in suggesting that, had those foundations not been laid, we ...

I have to say that this view really annoys me. The underlying point seems to be that Wenger should stop messing around picking kids and buy big so that we can compete with Chelsea and Man United today. Another offspring of this view is that we should stop pussying around and "win ugly".

There are ...
